Guest guest
Well we went to Dr. H Friday and he still feels Collin needs the taylor spatial frame. He said to call to make the appoinment for the begining phase when we are ready to decide when. He will first go in to casts for 4 weeks (2 different casts), then surgery with the frame I belive for 10-12 weeks, then surgery to remove it, then casts again, then a KAFO (Knee Ankly Foot Orthotic) for about a year. If we start by September 2005 right after he turns 4, I figure we can be done right before he starts school hopefully in 2006. He's is 3.5 years old now. We already have a shore house for August 27 - Sept. 3rd and I really want to wait to let him have that week of fun on the beach with his cousins, etc. It is the first time we will ever have a house on the beach so I just want to wait and let him go since we already rented it and committed to it. When it rains it just poors!!!! I am just getting ready to go back to work on Monday, I was sick and out for 6 weeks. I had emergency abdominal surgery for what I though was a benign cyst, but recently I found out it may be some type of ovarian cancer, I'm in the process of going for a second opinion, etc. but if we plan to have more children we have to start right away, etc. I feel so much stress about going back to work Monday then saying I need to leave again for Collin's surgery, then again so I can have a baby which would be a c-section so thats another 6-10 weeks out of work, and for lots of doctors appoinments between Collin and me. I will still work during the first 4 weeks of casts but will need to be with him for at least the first 4-8 weeks of the device. I feel like my head is going to explode!!!!!!! We just bought our first home in June and its so hard because we need both incomes to pay our mortgage, etc... I think if we do his casting in September, surgery in October, then he would have it removed around December. I'm hoping to become pregnant and give birth around December or January so I just don't know how to do this all money wise. But we really don't have a choice, if we want more kids we have to do it right away before we can't. If money weren't an issue it would be much easier, I envy the rich right now!!!! We would have been fine probably in a few years from now, but its hard because we are young and still starting out, we haven't really finished establishing ourselves yet. I feel so bad that Collin needs this surgery, that was stress enough for us then all this came along. Sorry I just needed to vent. If anyone has any info. they could pass on to us about their experience with the taylor spatial frame " super cast " we would love to hear it. Our e-mail is chele323232@... Guest guest
Michele, I don't have any info about the frame, but I just wanted to say how sorry I am that you're going through all this right now. It sounds like you're really having a tough time, and anytime you need to vent we're all here for you. The surgery/frame thing sounds like it's going to be rough, and the cancer scare can't help. But all I can say is, " this too shall pass " . I know it's not very helpful, but whenever I feel overwhelmed, I just think about 10, 15, 20 years from now (heck, even 1 or 2 years sometimes!) when all this is a distant memory...think about Collin with his perfect little feetsies 5 years from now as an almost 9 year old on a baseball team, being cheered on by his almost 5 year old little brother or sister (also with perfect tootsies!)...hey, while we're at it, imagine your 2nd opinion comes back great and you're there nice & preggy with baby #3! I'm feeling for ya babe!!! , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 RCF DBB 16-18/7 > > Well we went to Dr. H Friday and he still feels Collin needs the > taylor spatial frame. Guest guest
Oh Michele, I can't believe all that is happening at once. I know you will get through this and be all the more stronger for having done so. I am sure you know that you can utilize the Family Leave Act if your employer has more than 40 employees (I believe its 40). I know that won't help with paying the mortgage but at least you'll know you still have a job to go back to. Also, I don't know how large Collin's medical bills will be mounting to but there is also a fund in New Jersey that will pay 100% of his medical if it reaches a certain percentage of your annual income. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Guest guest
Wow, sounds like you have a lot of lemon-ade to make! And if all else fails, all these lemons life is giving your right now will give you lots of pucker power.... plenty of kisses to go around. Hang in there - take it one step at a time. If there is absolutely nothing you can do about something today, then don't waste that day stressing and worrying about it. If there is something you can do, then do it and move forward. Sure there is a certain amount of grief involved, and you need to grieve, but be careful it doesn't consume you or your husband, be a rock for each other. Someone else said, and I agree, this too shall pass and someday it'll be a distant memory. Keep telling yourself that. One step at a time, don't let all this rob the joy from you life. Keep us posted on how things are going, OK? s. Collin needs the taylor spatial frame Well we went to Dr. H Friday and he still feels Collin needs the taylor spatial frame. Guest guest
, I am always so interested in the older kids in the group and what they are facing as things progress. My son is 4.5, was fully corrected, but now has femoral torsion causing what looks like a relapse but really isn't. I read the posts only occasionally so I apologize if I've missed discussion...but why does Collin need the Spatial Frame? I looked it up and found pictures but couldn't find exactly what it treats. I also looked at your website- -what a sweetie he is!!! I am so sorry this is such a difficult time for you and him. Guest guest
Wow Michele, you do have a big load on your mind right now. No wonder you feel completely overwhelmed. I think you are doing the right thing for Collin. You have done all the research, looked down all avenues, and patiently waited to see if it was truly necessary. There is little chance that you will second guess your final decision. Collin will thank you in the future when he wins the gold medal for the 100 yard dash! I'm sure it will be a tough road, but the fact of the matter is, we all thought the casts and DBB were going to be a tough road. Even though this surgery is much more extreme and involved, I think day by day, you just do it because you have to and in the end you may realize it wasn't so bad. Good luck with it and please remind us as surgery gets closer. As for the job, pregnancy, money, etc. I really don't have much advice. Just hope your employer will work with you; and if they don't, they didn't value you in the first place and it would be their loss. Nobody ever has enough money..............but somehow it works out. As far as the pregnancy, my only recommendation is get pregnant when you are good and ready. Hang in there. Try not to stress yourself out by thinking about everything all at once 24/7!
