Guest guest
Hi Kim, We had some luck with prilosec. We had a compounding pharmacy turn it in to a liquid for us. Also we switched to a very easy on the stomach formula called neocate you order it by phone ask the GI if you should try it. I have some left over and can mail it to you if you would like. Reflux & effectiveness of meds Hi all, I know that many of you have children with reflux and was wondering what medications you found to be the most effective. , 10, RSS, had reflux and no medications we used worked despite the fact that he also had a fundoplication. My 3-yr-old, also had reflux, but more of the silent type. He only vomited occasionally. His was pretty severe too, and he now has vocal nodules because of it. Now, my 6-week-old daughter has significant reflux. I can't stand to see her in pain. She screams a good part of the day because of it, as did . She is on Zantac now & will be seeing a GI doctor tomorrow. We have used Reglan, Zantac, and Propulsid in the past with no luck. I was wondering if others had the same results with these meds? I see that many kids here are on Prevacid or Prilosec. Have you found these medications to be effective? If so, do youknow if they can be used on neonates? We have tried 4 different formulas already with as well as thickening the feeds with rice cereal. Nothing works! Her reflux has actually gotten worse as we try differnt treatments. The strange thing is that she is gaining weight really well, despite the amount she vomits. This is kind of mind boggling, as it is the opposite to what I am used to with my other kids in regards to weight gain. If anyone can offer any suggestions, so I can be armed with questions for the GI tomorrow, it would be much appreciated! Kim C.
Guest guest
Kim, This is how our awareness of Xavier's milk allergy started. When he was about 6 weeks old my husband ran out of pumped breast milk while I was out, and he made him a bottle of enfamil. He projectile vomited that. We started to notice that the crying, curling up in a ball, (like his stomach hurt) and spitting out thick clear mucous were way worse when he had the formula, but he also did this after nursing. We started to suspect a milk allergy, and while I stopped eating dairy for a few days, I gave him soy formula to see if it would make a difference...he was like a totally different baby. He did continue to have reflux, but I feel that this was a separate issue, the milk allergy made him vomit itself. (he got a hold of my older son's milk filled sippy cup a few weeks ago and helped himself, and was trying to vomit and all of the above after just a few drops. He couldn't actually vomit because of the fundo, but he retches just the same) Well, that was long and winded, but anyway, you might want to just try some soy and see what happens! Hope this helps Jen and Lance Xavier 15months, 16lbs!, 27in RSS, G-tube, Fundoplacation, 27 cal Soy Formula, Myrilax, ST, OT, PT, FT Emerald, 5, Non RSS Wyatt, 4, Non RSS
Guest guest
hi kim, i dont know alot about this but a friend of mines baby had this problem and after trying different formulas they ended up having to use a soy based formula. but beside that they can only use the ready feed, it cant be the powder or the concentrate, if they use that they have the same problem, but for some reason if they use the ready feed he is fine. it might be something to try. good luck! jodie (nicholas-6 nonrss, christopher-3 rss 23lbs 33 " ght genotropin .6, johnathon-9m nonrss)
Guest guest
Kim, I don't know if it is safe to use with , but for your older kids, you should ask about a proton pump inhibitor. It turns off the parts of the stomach that produce acid. Max uses Protonix in the morning and if he is having some discomfort at night, we add Nexium. The Nexium just neutralizes the acid, I believe. By the end of the day, the proton pumps have regenerated and that is why he feels the burning. I do know that there are other proton pump inhibitors, but I get Prevacid and Prilosec and others mixed up. It's all the P's. I just stick with the Protonix unless Dr. H. says to use something else.
