Guest guest
The latest update: Oh Brother....He has been fighting what my husband and I thought was just a viral stomach bug,(vomiting and diarrhea, no fever) maybe tied into an allergic reaction to the Pediasure we have been giving him the past few weeks. This is day 5 and he has still not improved with the diarrhea, BIG blowouts. I have done everything, eliminating his diet to just pedialyte, and then when he has been successful with keeping the pedialyte down, I gradually go to the BRAT diet. Nothing works for him right now. He is just on the breast and the pedialyte now and he is using Phenergren to help settle his stomach. The docs are thinking this is probably a combination virus and the unknown chronic illness we have been dying to diagnose. They have stated if he doesn't improve within the next 24 hours we will be admitting him at Children's. I am trying to stay positive but it is so frustrating. He has lost over 1 1/2 pounds in the past few days, and that took us over 3 months to get on him despite of his ravenous appetite. I told my husband to do some investigating to what the docs would like to accomplish in the hospital....I'll be darned if I get admitted just to sit in a patients room over Easter on an IV without any further testing. Keep us in your prayers. , Jay, (5) and Mathieu 15 months 17lb. 15 oz and 27 3/4 inches
Guest guest
Jay, After what we just went through and are going through with Max, I understand your situation. If Mathieu has the stomach bug that Max had, then it is a bad one. (Max, however, has not had the upset stomach part of it. His stomach basically has shut down.) The doctors kept telling me about this particularly mean virus and the hospital was full to capacity in the Children's Center. I hope you are able to avoid the hospital for your holiday weekend. Just keep in mind, however, that it is Mathieu's health at stake and if he needs the IV support, then he should get it. I've spent many holidays in the hospital and it is not fun. The toll on the family is so great - and the toll on Mom is even greater. I hope that things improve or at least stabilize so you both can stay home. Jodi Z. Guest guest
No actually it's not a consolation, how can you compare each others children? It is just as difficult for us even if our child may weigh 15 oz more than yours. Not having a diagnosis but knowing for sure there is something there....waiting for the blood tests to be taken at the right time so we can know what autoimmune disorder we are dealing with. I am finally being taken seriously after beign told at 5 months it was due to my breastmilk, and it was my fault I wasn't providing enough calories to him. I did everything under the sun to help place calories in him, (except quit breastfeeding) and inspite of all the calories I give, he still hardly gains. We calculate what he eats is about 1300-1500 claories a day. He loves to eat. Since he was 5 months old he has only gained 3 pounds and grown about 3 1/2 inches. Before he turned 5 months he had gained 7 pounds and grew 5 inches. Something happened at between that 5 month period that changed. We still don't know what, but hopefully we will know soon. I am sorry I am frustrated right now, but no mother wants their child publicly compared to another. We come here for advice, support and reassurance that we are all in the same boat; even though some of them are further along than others. Thank you, Jay I'm so sorry for your trouble, I wish you the best of luck. But if its any consolation, even after your son lost all that weight he still weighs more than mine. My son is 16 months and weighs barely 16 lbs.
