Guest guest
Hi there, My son is 6 months and has been eating a variety of fruits and veggies and cereals. He is a great eater. My question is, when is it okay to introduce yogurt? Thanks in advance!! Lori

Guest guest
It is a kind of personal thing. The AAP recommends 1 year. Most doctors and say, WIC, will say if there is no history of allergy then 7-9 mo is fine. Guest guest
My little guy is only 4 months, so I haven't really thought about it yet. However, don't they say to wait and introduce reg. milk at one year. I would think yogurt would be the same since it is made with milk. Just a thought, but like I said, I don't have any experience with this yet! NON_RELATED feeding question Hi there, My son is 6 months and has been eating a variety of fruits and veggies and cereals. Guest guest
They say that milk shouldn't be introduced until a year as a main food source. Milk just doesn't have the right balance of nutrients like breast milk or formula have. I personally think, many are scared into thinking any milk at all will harm the baby before a year. I have introduce milk products, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc., at about nine months. It may not be right, but my kids are still alive. Anyway, that's just what I think. Guest guest
I believe yogurt is different than whole milk as the proteins etc are different. I started giving my girls yogurt around 6-7 months and they were fine but I just followed what I felt was best for my girls. It worked out best that way for our family. Guest guest
not till 12 months old... it has milk in it and they are not supposed to drink milk till they are 12 months old... if you are in the US... they have yogurt for babies at walmart... it's made with whole milk instead of 2% and it has less sugar but more fat than regular yogurt... it's called " YoBaby " .. and that's not a joke... lol... but it comes in 3 flavors, apple and cereal, vanilla, and banana... and grace just loves it... she eats 2 a day... just a tip for later!! mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 23/7 wbb_lr lori.webb@...> wrote: Hi there, My son is 6 months and has been eating a variety of fruits and veggies and cereals. Guest guest
Yogurt is NOT the same as milk...the proteins and such are different (milder)...babies can start yogurt at around 7 months, basically after they've already been introduced to a variety of other foods (unless there are allergy issues). But formula or breastmilk should be the major nutrition until at least 1 year of age, and then whole milk can be introduced. The YoBaby is good for little ones, it's also thicker than regular yogurt--more like a Stage 2 or 3 baby food, without chunks. , mommy of 3 munchkins, one w/ CF > Still alive... that cracked me up! Guest guest
Thought I would chime in- Dairy products are fine for older babies under 12mos. They are an awesome source of protein and fat, essential for brain development. Cow milk is off limits because it contains proteins that are not able to be broken down by an immature digestive system. Processed dairy products such as cheese, yogurt, ice cream etc. contain protiens that are already partailly broken down and are a wonderful addition to baby's expanding menu. Nothing " magical " happens the day of baby's first birthday where all of a sudden their intestines can now break down cow milk. Every child is different. A good way to introduce any food to baby's diet it to simpy try it- if it dosn't work, back off and try again later. If they get a tummy ache or diareaha wait a few weeks and introduce it again. If they tolerate it just fine then you get the benifit of a wider veriety of foods which is always more healthful. My own children have had a large variety of foods offered from the very beginning and are both very good eaters. I am convinced that narrow restrictive diets while babies are learning to eat lead to picky eating habits later on. mom to Ava 1/18/02 Addie 8/2/04 BCF(last cast before Dobb's brace) > > Hi there, > My son is 6 months and has been eating a variety of fruits and > veggies and cereals. Guest guest
chiming in here as well... the same thing happened to us when Emma was a baby. She developed eczema and even had blood in her stools when she was 3 months old & we were at the RMH in Iowa. I went off *all* dairy for a year. A great way to slim down (with calcium supplements!) but the black coffees were hard to take.
