Guest guest
Hi all, Looking for any general advice you can give me with the casts - there is so much more to worry about with them now that Livi is mobile and eating real food! How to keep casts clean while eating? How to wash casts? And anything else you may have advice about that I didn't think of. Thanks as always! Guest guest
grace sat in her high chair and i use those plastic bibs... now they got dirty by her crawling... i seemed to always pick pink for the cast color and they had brown patches... kind of made me a little grossed out over how well cleaned my house was... but... i also tried to wash them with a soapy rag but it didn't do much good... she had the fiber glass overlay.. so good luck on keeping them clean... i didn't have much luck... my little one is too nosey and into everything... lol... mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 23/7 Darby dabrennan@...> wrote: Hi all, Looking for any general advice you can give me with the casts - there is so much more to worry about with them now that Livi is mobile and eating real food! Guest guest
We used tube socks over the casts, cut off some of the extra at the top and tucked the rest in around the top. Tori was a lot younger but I think it would still work for you. Then you can change them daily/when ever they get dirty.
Guest guest
Lay a towel over her lap as she eats? I scrubbed s with a damp soapy cloth, worked pretty good. s. 1 year old in casts - advice? Guest guest
Same here ... we just put daddy's sock over it. only used odd ones tho, since he walked holes in them in a very short time! Guest guest
At Shriner's they gave us a sock-like stretchy material that fit over his casts and tucked in around the top. They gave us a whole roll so we could change them when they got holes in them. Maybe you could ask whoever does the casting if they have some of that. and bilateral cf 11/10/03 dbb 16/7 > Same here ... we just put daddy's sock over it. only used odd ones tho, since he walked holes in them in a very short time! > > ANgel > Re: 1 year old in casts - advice? > > > > We used tube socks over the casts, cut off some of the extra at the > top and tucked the rest in around the top. Guest guest
I've thought of socks - DH's feet are so big and his socks are big too - is there a type that worked best for you all as far as thickness, length, etc? All the advice so far has been wonderful - thank you all!! Guest guest
Darby, I hope Livi is happy, I'm thrilled to hear they decided to wait on the surgery. What a great group of docs! I wanted to re-mention something that struck me as funny, and informative all at the same time. I think it was Sharon, from AU who said she used extra large condoms over her sons casts. Dunno if they'd work on a 1 year old's but it may be worth a try for bathing. I don't envy you in this position, but it'll be over soon. And that new baby coming! I'm getting near my due date, May 2nd (m/c) so all these new babies arriving this spring are so much fun to hear about. Try to rest up and enjoy the next few weeks, Livi should be out of her cast by the time baby arrives right? Don't forget to include us when you send pics of that new baby! (CFPics of course). Guest guest
Kori, I too am thrilled they decided on the 2nd tenotomy vs. surgery. It has made me feel MUCH more confident about her treatment going forward. LOL Maybe I'll send DH to go buy some HUGE condoms... I'm sure he'd love to see the looks on the cashiers faces. I can't imagine they'd make them big enough to fit over her casts (it would be kind of scary if they did) but it's worth a shot! I'm hoping Livi will be out of casts for the new baby - but starting back up with the DBB after she's been out of it for so long will be a hard transition for her when combined with a new baby in the house...yikes.. I didn't think of that until just now. I'll definately post some pics when I have baby news!!
