Guest guest
Hi guys, just wanted to share -- Sammy got his hours reduced today! Yippee! We are now at 16-18 hours! I'm so excited for him! Dr. Dobbs brought up the whole too much reductio-too fast topic; I think he was a little upset that he has been getting " dinged " on this list lately because people have been reducing hours too much. We did talk about the babies who have been having trouble sleeping when they have their hours dramatically reduced and how it has been helping to increase their hours and then drop back down gradually. He was a little concerned that people are interpreting his guidelines incorrectly. He said he always tells people initially to do long hours, i.e. 16-18 hours and then lets them drop down to 12-14. Anyway, just wanted to let you all know that he IS recommending 16-18 hours immediately following 23/7, just like the official protocol says, yeah! Guest guest
Don't get me wrong, my admiration for all that Dr. Dobbs has done for this treatment is overflowing. But this strikes me as weird. Either the parents are hearing impaired who have come here and said they were reduced to nights only, or he can't have told them all 16-18. 16-18 is totally reasonable. But it's a far cry from nights only (12hr/d). Some had even been told 12 specifically IIRC. I suppose it hardly matters what happened in the past if he's aware of the problems it seems to have caused for some parents and how we really can handle the long hours fine when they're little... so please stress to all parents how important it is. That's all that's needed right? Tell Dr. Dobbs I apologize if I sounded mean about all this. If I recall, I'm the only one who actually dissed the good doc lol! But so many other docs do reduce too quickly, and it's going to mean some trouble with babies who otherwise wouldn't have issues. I feel that it needs to be addressed somehow, some way if at all possible. Our too few good docs can't be doing it too. Dr. Dobbs, we really do love you! Guest guest
I just wanted to add that we saw dr. dobbs last week, the 17th, and I asked him specifically if we could reduce the hours now that my daughter is walking. I had heard somewhere that the hours can be reduced 12-14 hours once the child is walking. She's 15 months, and has been walking for three weeks. He said no we should really stay with 16 hours. This kinda bummed me out, but we are still doing 16 hours. In the back of my head I am thinking will two less hours make or break? But I make sure that she is in them for 16 hours. I finally found a doctor that I can trust, so I will listen. I don't know about him getting " dinged " here but I was thinking he was taking a conservative approach to my daughter's case. Just my two cents. Guest guest
I don't think he usually has time to keep up w/ reading although I believe one of his secretaries reads at least sometimes. I'm not sure if he knew about our discussion because she read it or because another patient mentioned it to him. > > > > Hi guys, just wanted to share -- Sammy got his hours reduced today! > > Yippee!
