When was born, I just used what the hospital used, which was Simalac w/Iron. Noah drank so little in the beginning.. being a preemie and all. We had TONS of free Formula from the hospital and I had free samples from all the major companies.. and sent away for free coupons.. etc. Then Noah was getting picky... wouldn't drink the Similac or the Enfamil... and didn't like the Carnation either. Someone on a a message board suggested Parents Choice..at Walmart.. it is less then half the price and equal if not better in nutrients... made by Wyeth (childrens Advil people) Noah LOVED it. They now make a DHA/RHA formula .. and a stage 2 formula.. which we switched to at about 6 months. Guest guest
After many, many formula changes b/c of colic/reflux medicated with Zantac etc, we finally settled with Nutramigen @ nearly $8.00 per 32oz can. It's the only thing that didn't hurt his little tummy! I was very glad to see the 1 yr BD roll around to slowly switch him to cow's milk! lol

Guest guest
, I am planning on using Similac but when my daughter was born, the hospital started her on Enfamil, which she didn't take to, so we went back to Similac then to Nutramagen then back to Similac. She seemed satisfied with that then the others. I tried to breastfeed but I didn't make enough milk for her nor did she like it. Good luck and best wishes to you. Guest guest
, When my son was born they put him on Enfamil Lipil in the hospital, due to weight-loss and horrible diahhrea (sp) he was chnaged to regular Enfamil with Iron. After a week the problem was still there and he was changed to Similac with Iron. Finally, after all of the formula changes and the problem still being there at 4 weeks old he was move to Isomil with Iron. He did great on that. When I decide to have #2 I will try and breastfeed if possible, if not I will probably go right to Isomil again. Good luck and best wishes! Guest guest
Hey, If you ask me....why fix something that isn't broken! If he is only 4 months and he is content with the formula and sleeping through the night then I personally wouldn't mess with his tummy and/or his schedule right now. Just my thoughts on it. Guest guest
I agree with ..just because you " can " doesn't mean you " should " . Your baby will let you know when he is ready for solids. You could mix up a little cereal with some formula and put it on a spoon & see how he reacts. Babies have a reflex that makes them push everything out of their mouth with their tongue...until that reflex is gone, they're not ready for solids. So he may jump on the food, or gag & spit it all out. Either way, you'll know if he's ready or he needs to wait another month or so, and then you can try again. My first baby WANTED food...she'd stare at you when you ate, and started solids the day she turned 4 months--practically tore the spoon out of my hand. Ava on the other hand...I tried once every 2 weeks from the time she was 4 1/2 months, and she WAS NOT interested until she was almost 6 1/2 months. But it's no big deal--they're still getting all their nutrition from bottle/breast. You're just " introducing " them to food so they get used to eating. A word of caution: I know some moms do put cereal in the bottle, but you're not really supposed to do that. It's not necessary or recommended. Guest guest
Thank you everyone for the responses! My husband and I don't think Aleksander is quite ready yet, although he is definitely interested in food and has been for a while now. Whenever my husband or I eat anything, he stares with great interest and often wants to 'eat' as well. That said, he still pushes everything out of his mouth with his tongue, and just doesn't seem physically there yet, even though he is interested. (Lately, he's showing great interest in eating his fists. He gets one of his little hands in his mouth completely, then tries to fit the other one in as well.) We really want to make sure he wants to eat before we start, and don't want a picky eater. We're already planning on making our own baby food, and have several books on the topic. Encouraging healthy eating is a top priority for us, hence my questions! We definitely won't be putting the formula in the bottle. Once he's ready, he'll learn to eat properly! I have one friend who had to give her baby cereal very early because he was having growth issues. She gave him cereal in the bottle, and at 5, Sam still has eating issues. As a side note, Aleksander is getting back into his shoes next week, and we also don't want to introduce cereal during that transition. We don't want any negative associations for him! > > Hey, > > > > If you ask me....why fix something that isn't broken! Guest guest
My Pediatrician also said we could start feeding cereal at four months. I tried it and my daughter would not take it. She was full term and nursed. She took cereal at 51/2 months, but was not interested until then. If he is sleeping through the night, I would wait. Just my two cents Feeding Question Good morning. Aleksander had his 4 month well-baby check-up yesterday, and his doctor said it would be okay to start introducing cereal to him. I was just curious what other parents have done with thier babies. Guest guest
I would personally do exactly what you feel is right for your child. I started my kids at 4 months but they were definitely ready. I am a firm believer that as parents, no one knows our children better than we do and that includes the doctors. If you do not think he is ready, then I would wait. Guest guest
Hello, Aidan was also a preemie and sees a specialist pediatrician that deals just with high risk infants. He also works closely with a nutritionalist. They say to start feeding by his corrected age and not the age he is now. His pediatrician however said to start at 4months. When he was 4 months on the outside though his corrected age was really that of a 2 1/2 mo. old. I'd give it another month. Remember his insides arn't truly that of a full term infant.
