We are at the end of our 3 months and have gotten our hours reduced to nights and nap time only. We have also gotten new shoes and I'm back to having my husband help me pull it to the last strap, UGH, new leather. Oh well, I'll eventually get the hang of those suckers. The doctor said Aidans feet are very supple and flexible and we can go to nights and nap time only. I asked him about the 18 hours that doctor Ponseti prescribes until walking. He said true but all feet are different and he thinks Aidan's feet can handle it. I was counting the hours and his naps and night time are just about 16 hrs. I'll probably do a couple more but I wanted to get peoples thoughts? Has anyone had any problems with their children rolling over because of the bar? Aidan's legs are so strong from doing all those leg lifts but when it comes to rolling over he gets stuck. When he's on his side he seems out of sorts and gets upset. She says bringing his hips together is uncomfortable, not painful, just different as the brace always holds his legs apart. When I stand him up on his feet his legs are as far apart as the brace holds them. When you bring his legs together he has a harder time holding his weight. So, now when he's out of his brace we're going to be working on bringing the legs together and rolling from side to side without him crying. Has anyone else experienced this? __________________________________________________
Guest guest
This could have been me writing about . He does exactly the same as you describe - stiff legs, feet apart in brace position. He is also strong in standing, but cannot roll over. He is now 9 months old. I am also trying to get him to bring his legs together and stand, but he doesn't like it. I called the early intervention team out who did an evaluation, and have found that his gross motor skills are in the 3-5 month range, and have recommended some PT for him. We haven't started that yet, but hopefully we can get it going soon. He is pretty clueless as to why he has legs! You are blessed getting 16 hours of sleeptime! is 12 hours total! Guest guest
, It has been 3 months already? Congratulations on 'free time'. If you read some of the other posts about brace time, you may want to consider 16-18 hours at the minimum. Especially since Aidan is much younger than some of the older babies discussing reduced hours who are at least standing and cruisin'. The brace never hurt 's hips as she was trying to roll over or on her side. At least not that I am aware of. Do you think the bar is too long? I think if you practice rolling over without the brace, he will roll over with the brace on before you know it. Its great to hear from you guys and I'm glad everything is going so well. Guest guest
is 4 months and does the same thing. He tries so hard to roll over, but can't quite get it. He does, however, love jumping. He receives PT once/wk. for 60 min. and OT every other week. This is just starting so hopefully it will help! Guest guest
Hi . Thanks for sharing it makes me feel better. His physical therapist has given us some exercises to do at home. When he's on his back, and the bar is not on, bring his knees together and bend his legs pushing them up to his tummy. So his legs look like they are in a chair position. Bringing the knees together pulls the hips back in and out of the abduction position. Also, on his back, push one leg up to the tummy, knee bent, the other leg straight out then roll him to the side. Hold that position for a count of 5 to 10 then roll him back to the back. The first time we did this he screamed and cried. She assured me it doesn't hurt but the his little brain is just trying to compute the new position, it's more frustating than anything. He just doesn't know what to do on his side. He's getting better and crying a lot less. Put a toy out in front that he's like to grab or go for helps. Best of luck and keep me posted.
