Guest guest
Hi, I haven't written in a while. I was supposed to go to Dr Schoffner next week, and have been totally messed with. The appointment is cancelled. They say I refused to see my cardiologist so he could write a surgery clearance letter. I was never called or asked to go to my cardiologist. They knew this was my only available time for at least 6 months or more. Merry Christmas huh. I'm sorry, I'm just sitting here sobbing. The people in his office were terrible to me. So much for compassion and caring.
Guest guest
Oh Kim, I'm so sorry this happened to you. I know it was such a difficult decision for you to even try to go to Atlanta and now to have it cancelled at the last minute.....do you have a primary care physician who would be willing call Shoffner's office and go to bat for you? In this kind of situation I would call my long time doctor who would call Shoffner and sort things out. He's done this for me many times when the system gets balled up, in fact, has worked miracles where I thought miracles were not possible. Curmudgeonly people suddenly become helpful and thereafter treat me with respect. I hope you have someone like that who can help you through the mess. Wish I could do more. Hugs and prayers, Barbara > Hi, I haven't written in a while. I was supposed to go to Dr > Schoffner next week, and have been totally messed with. The > appointment is cancelled. Guest guest
Your kind words are very welcome. Thank you. It's a lost cause though, and truefully, even if they called tomarrow apologizing, I doubt I'd go. Letting someone cut into you takes trust. I believe this was done on purpose. Why, I have no idea, but to lie in my records saying I had refused to go to my cardiologist is a big deal. It's not a mistake. Someone flat out lied and falsified my records. I don't see how I could trust anyone at that office. What a messed up staff. I want to believe Dr Schoffner really doesn't understand what his staff did. > > Oh Kim, I'm so sorry this happened to you. Guest guest
It is very very possible that your chart got mixed up with someone elses. I got back a abnormal pap test one time that was sent to my house and I was very upset. Come to find out it was another patient's results that should have gone in the chart physically located before mine in their files. It shouldn't happen, but does on occasion. I would look into it further. klaga5 wrote: >Thanks Laurie, but like I said, this wasn't a mistake. Someone >wrote in my records that I refused to go to my cardiologist when I >was never asked to go. Guest guest
Yes, , that is another possible explanation. Same thing happened to me with breast cancer. I had to have an incisional biopsy that turned out negative, and they never put that in my chart. So, the preliminary report, which had been tentatively positive, was the only one there. Of course I was upset when the nurse practitioner said " .... you had breast cancer " . And one more time, I was very grateful that I had a copy of the medical report (final path report) so there were no lingering doubts in my mind. Still, how they handled this problem in Schoffner's office is the issue. They should have allowed for the possibility of their mistake and believed Kim when she said she did not refuse to go to a cardio. It warrants following up, if only to show them what NOT to do. Kim, is there someone who can persue it, and make the managers/Dr. Schoffner believe you did not refuse to go to a cardiologist? It just is not right that some people - usually secretaries/nurses - have such negative power over our lives at times. Best of luck, Kim. Guest guest
I appreciate that you all want it to be fixed for me. I'd like that too, but I'm hundreds of miles away. Would you believe people in your office you know or some faceless upset stranger. They say I refused to go. I say I wasn't asked to go. They aren't going to believe me. It's too late to get into my cardiologist to get the clearance letter anyway. The Atlanta appointments been cancelled, and filled by someone else, I'm sure. It's over. Although I appreciate you guys caring, there are other things we can focus on now. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas. Kim > > Yes, , that is another possible explanation. Guest guest
---I am sorry this happened to you and I can understand your being upset. This is common in the medical community. They make mistakes and yes you can run into difficult and rude staff. Just like they have had to deal with some very difficult patients. All around people are difficult to deal with. I realize this is not an excuse for their behaviour, but it is common. You desearve good medical care and to be treated with respect. I really think you should get this problem fixed and out of your records. At this point it does not matter who did it or how it happened. The truth should be known. Try and focus on that. I know it is hard. Talk to your Dr and have this fixed. Dr Shoeffner is good and you deserve his care. Don't let one or two people mistakes and attitudes ruin that for you. It is a bummer that you have to wait. But do not let that stop you from getting what you need. Stand up to them don't back away. I am saying all of this because I can relate. My first urge is to retreat and say forget it. But then I realize that I am only hurting myself. I hope the initial shock and hurt will diminish a little so you can enjoy the holiday. Also don't apologize for your vent... it is good to get it out and we are here to listen. God Bless, Dawn anich In , " klaga5 " wrote: > > I appreciate that you all want it to be fixed for me. Guest guest
Kim So sorry to hear your disappointment and anger. I too have had this happen, more than once. One possible cause is that someone was supposed to make that call and didn't, for any number of reasons. And then perhaps much later, when it was too late, realized the mistake and wrote that note to cover for themselves. I've talked to office staffers and thought they were very well organized, and then I've seen their desks (covered with to-do lists, etc.) and their workload, and I'm amazed. They have a " drop everything and get this done " mode, which makes it easy to forget what they were going to get back to. I've had one secretary tell me that she was sure she had mailed something, but wasn't the least surprised that I hadn't received it, and immediately offered to send it " again " . Most people would be suspicious if something they mailed hadn't arrived, and would verify the address out loud, or something. Amazingly, this has happened more than once, with this very secretary. I suspect I am not the only one who hasn't received her " first " try. I've puzzled about this, and why there seems to be so little oversight. I suppose the doctors aren't aware of it. I also think that the doctors are usually not in charge, actually, and have no direct control, especially in a large specialist association at a teaching hospital. But there are office managers, so I don't know. Anyway, I sure do sympathize. Must be very frustrating. I hope you can find some way to move on, and get the treatment you need. Steve D. Guest guest
I hope you find an answer to your pain over this incident - I have found that things happen for a reason, and just be happy you didn't get down there and find out your appointment was cancelled. Sometimes it only takes one stupid/nasty/uncaring person to have a huge negative impact. I like to think there are a lot more positive people out there than negative, and that those who do negative things, will get back what they deserve somehow. Be assured that I and I think others feel that Dr. Shoffner himself is very caring and thoughtful, and even has called some of us (including myself) directly unexpectedly. I for one am waiting to hear from NEMC - I had tests almost 3 months ago, and although I've called and left info for a callback, I've gotten no contact from anyone there (and again, they are supposed to be " great " , but perhaps for established patients they are). 'Course NEMC keeps billing me, I'm not paying until I find out my results... Best of luck to finding more solace and answers. Take care, RH > > > > Yes, , that is another possible explanation.
