Guest guest
Just curious how early you can diagnose this in our RSS kids? Colin has a few of the symptoms, but I'm not sure if they are actual symptoms or just typical 3 year old male behavior. He is very forgetful and loses his toys, he does not listen and has to be asked over and over to do something, and he is highly distractible. It is hard because I am always comparing him to his twin sister and it may just be that girls are more mature than boys?? Who knows? Thanks, Colin (RSS, g-tube) and Hayden - 40 mo. Grant - 3.5 mo. Guest guest
Hi It is definitely too early to tell. I had a girl first (not RSS) and then Adam. Boys are definitely way more immature (I see this daily in my classroom too) and the main criteria for ADHD is that the behaviours occur for 6 at least months and occur in at least two separate environments (that usually means home and school). Try not to worry if that is possible (I'm the biggest one for worrying:0)). Debby When is ADHD diagnosed? > Just curious how early you can diagnose this in our RSS kids? Guest guest
Sounds like a typical 3 1/2 year old boy to me!!! HA!! I have a girl 14 months older, and it has always been hard not to compare them. Although , my RSS child, is often the one that forgets things. We call her " Dorie " from FInding Nemo. " , can you grab that jacket on the stairs when you come down... " 2 minutes later, " , where's your jacket " (as she had to walk past it) -- " Oh, I forgot. " HA! > Just curious how early you can diagnose this in our RSS kids? Colin > has a few of the symptoms, but I'm not sure if they are actual > symptoms or just typical 3 year old male behavior. Guest guest
I wouldn't worry, thats unless all my three boys and my husband have it too ! Guest guest
, We are dealing with similar issues with Jake. He turned 4 in February. He is easily distractible, loses things constantly, goes off into his own world (he is having an EEG to look for possible seizures for this), has a very, very difficult time listening and doing completing tasks. His behavior is often tough in public where he needs to sometimes sit still for a few minutes (ie. a doctors appt., a waiting room). We have always written it off as boys will be boys, but I really can't any more. This has been going on for a long time now. His same age " boy " friends just don't act this way. They can sit, concentrate, etc. I have to over and over again try to get him to focus and bring him back to the task at hand. We talked to a neurologist while we were at an appt. to discuss staring spells and she gave us a form to fill out (as well as for his teacher to fill out) to see if he has symptoms of ADHD. I don't know what he has, but it just doesn't feel right to me. He just can't stay focused. He is in a soccer class (very basic one) and he never listens, always does his own thing. It it terrible. Guest guest
We are also dealing with this. is 4 now, and also just wants to do his own thing. He is in a parent and tot gymnastics class (the oldest kid in the class by far) and I still have to make him stay on track. We saw Dr H yesterday (more to follow in next post) and she commented on how many RSS children are ADD or ADHD. Since is already getting plenty of therapy in a supervised setting, we have not yet done anything about testing. Guest guest
and Alison, I thought I was alone. Jordan is 3 years old and he is very active/hyper especially at home. In school they say he can sit and stay focused while doing his work but at home it is a different story. He just doesn't sit still. When I try to do some work with him - puzzles, writing, tracing... he does it for about a minute and then he says " all done. " But when he does something that he likes he can stay with it for a while. He behavior is another story. His teacher says he can be very manipulative especially to adults. Jordan knows who to " play " in order to get what he wants. H e also likes to talk a lot and can be verbally unkind to people. As much as we try to get him to be nice and polite, Jordan has his own agenda and just will not listen.
Guest guest
I could list all the signs of ADD or ADHD, but it would take up too much space. What I would do instead is do a Google search on Dr. Phelan. He is a wonderful source of info and will be speaking at the MAGIC Convention on this topic. You can also Google ADD or ADHD alone and you will find thousands of entries. There are many checklists out there. My favorite is the Connor Scale. Another good source is Dr. Mel Levine. Jodi Z.
