Guest guest
Hi , I was a Cub leader for 3 years and a Beaver leader for 1.5 years (Scouts) and we had several kids with special medical needs ranging from diabetes to severe asthma, ADD, etc. We were all trained and aware of each childs special needs and could give the shots and meds etc. Every thing was kept under lock and key, with ALL leaders having a key to the meds. Each leader was " assigned " a child to care for and very strict med. charts were filled in so that no one got double dosed or missed a dose of anything. Definatly (sp) send extra snacks for and make the leaders aware of her need to snack also, it's medical. I would be a little leary of hiring someone to go along on the trip until you talk to the appropriate people though. I would suggest going above the leaders and attending a Group Meeting (Leaders/Regional Directior etc.) These are adult meetings only (sorry if you already know all of this, it was our protocol for extra persons going to camps) to ask permission for an extra person to go. All leaders must have a criminal record abstract submitted before they can be leaders and we had to have the same for anyone attending a camp. I really think it would be a great idea to have a student nurse or someone go to the camp though, just make sure all your ducks are in a row... Hope every thing turns out great for !!! is attending her first sleep away camp this summer for a week and she's sooooo excited, her best friend is going too and they are able to stay in the same bunk house!
