Guest guest
Robin...that shower must have been great. I always have loved anything to do with babies...I watch all the baby stories on tv...hold babies whenever I get the chance. I am soooo excited for you and baby Emerson. A question for all... I am now a week out, and I read all these posts about becoming preggers very soon after WLS... my doctor has me on the pill. Were you guys on any form of B/C at time of conception? It is my understanding that our fertility increases dramatically after losing some weight...I just wonder if I will be so lucky? and do you ever wish you had waited the suggested 18-24 months? I want sooooo much to have a baby that it almost makes me want to go off my pills right away...but I know that the longer I can hold out, the better shape I will be in to carry a baby. Age is also a minor factor. I will be 35 in October, and dont want to wait too terribly much longer. Any thoughts, ideas, insights, or experiences will be appreciated. Guest guest
I have never used any bc with my husband. My son was a surprise.......and I used no bc after gastric bypass because I just figured nothing would happen. And nothing did until approximately 18 months after the surgery. I think I only ovulate every 4 years or some other wackiness! Chrystal Wife to Jace - together 6 Years! Happy Mommy to - 4 Years Old! Jonas Due July 28, 2004! Guest guest
In my opinion you should wait at least a year or until your weight stabilizes. Yes people get pregnant very early on and do OK and have a healthy baby but it is not the best thing for your body. You got this surgery for a reason - let it work to the best of its ability before taking the next major step in your life. That bein said I am 37 and pregnant with my first I could not be happier! I totally understand the worry about age thing because it was a major factor with me. In fact I tried all kinds of fertility options before even considering WLS. Now I did get pregnant accidentily 5.5 months out. WLS did what fertility treatments could not to my surprise! I do wish I waited at least 1 year to get pregnant but it didn't work out that way. I have 50 lbs to go to goal and really worry if I will ever get there. Being thin and beautiful is something that I have a hard time seeing for my self but even if it does not happen my health has improved so much from WLS I can handel it if I do not reach goal. If you do get pregnant early cherish it but do not try for it until your body is in the best shape it can be. The stress will be on you more than the baby but you have to be the mommy for a long time to come and you want to be a healthy one! - Diane > Robin...that shower must have been great. Guest guest
Donna, a word of caution... Due to our malabsorptive system (if you are bypassed) the pill can be very INEFFECTIVE in preventing conception. I was put on the pill immediately following my surgery and due to the combination of malabsorption and crazy hormone changes early post-op I became pregnant at 5.5 months out, after years of being unable to conceive. That pregnancy, unfortunately, ended in a miscarriage. Thankfully we have since been blessed with a healthy pregnancy that will bring us twins in a few more weeks. I do wish I had been told about the ineffectiveness of oral contraceptives on bypass patients before the untimely pregnancy and heartbreaking miscarriage occured. Speak with your OB about other, non oral, methods of birth control, at least until your weight has stabilized and you have been given the go ahead by your doctor to try to conceive. Good luck and there is a lot you can learn from people on this site. Toi
