Guest guest
Do you dilute the Knudsens juice. Gerber juice is not very strong at all. It is meant for babies and is diluted. When I bought the Knudsen's juice, I dilute 50/50 and my daughter was previously on regular juice. She drank it fine mixed 50/50. It may be too strong without dilution? Guest guest
I was so excited to get the liquid CLO in my son 3 days in a row but now he has increased his peripheral eye scanning at home and at school. We also switched from Gerber pear juice to Knudsens these past 3 days. The knudsens juice is much thicker(pulpier?) and I wonder if that makes a difference. Anyone else see stranger eye scanning than before CLO? Maybe we need to give it more time? Thanks
Guest guest
, We got the same thing...CLO for 2 weeks now and she has done the weird eye/spin around thing 3 or 4 times ( never did it before). I've got a message into our DAN today. I'll let you know what's up if I get anything concrete. Please let me know what you find too. Thanks, in Chicago OT: CLO/More scanning >I was so excited to get the liquid CLO in my son 3 days in a row but now he has increased his peripheral eye scanning at home and at school. Guest guest
Are you supplementing EPO? Some feel that you need to do EPO for a few weeks before starting the fish oil. My daughter goes downhill if I use too much fish oil. She currently gets 9 1200 mg. EPO caps/day and 3 CLOs (kirkman) and 1 OmegaBrite fish oil (along with some other oils). Flax might work for some too. K.
Guest guest
My son, who did have some visual stims before we started CLO, developed several new ones right away. We felt it was an attempt to get used to his new-and-improved vision. They did fade away over about a month. However, his pupils remained excessively dialated. When we added Evening Primrose oil to the supplements, his pupil size normalized and has remained normal ever since. BTW - the CLO is for the vitA, not the fatty acids, so fish body oil, flax oil, etc., won't substitute for CLO in Dr. Megson's protocol. I'm not saying they're not worth giving - we use CLO, flax oil, and borage oil ourselves - just don't get confused about what you're giving for what. Guest guest
Just returned from Autism 2001...decided to really work on SI dysfunction to see what results we get for the vision problem. Wonderful conference!!!!First time to see Temple Grandin..she is great. Bought the Out of sync child book, amazed how all the senses work together and the everyday things we can be doing to help our children.I plan on turning our house into a jungle gym(haven't told my husband this yet) OT: CLO/More scanning > > >>I was so excited to get the liquid CLO in my son 3 days in a row but now he >has increased his peripheral eye scanning at home and at school. This is fascinating - my daughter's pupils have gotten smaller (more normal) with the addition of CLO - she'd already been on fish oil and EPO. K. Guest guest
| OK, I stopped CLO for 2 days and put in EPO...the eye stimming stopped. | She also developed a facial tick on CLO (scarey) and w/o CLO it stopped. | Today I did both oils and the facial tick came back. Soooo, is it a CLO | problem OR is it that we need to do EPO for a few weeks before introducing | CLO/ Help appreciated. , Dr. Kane said do 6 weeks of EPO before adding in fish oil. From a 10-14-99 Dr. Kane post... " What are the right general fats to give a child with autistic spectrum disorder? Begin with 6 capsules of Efamol Evening Prim Rose oil (squeeze out and add to food (no taste really) and a few teaspoons of freshly ground organic flax seed (Store in freezer!). After about 6 weeks you may add one capsule of Efamol Omega Combination (non rancid fish oil) for a child who can swallow OR two capsules Nordic Naturals DHA JR. (this contains full body fish oil that can be chewed-tastes like strawberries-ok, the reality is it tastes like strawberries... and then, and then... well you get the picture it has an aftertaste that some children are fine with and some are not; I tend to use the adult ProDHA from Nordic Naturals or Tyler Encapsulations Eskimo more often with children; the majority of children though do accept the DHA/EPA Junior strawberries and all). COMPLETELY remove hydrogenated fats from your child's diet-margarine,processed oils, hydrogenated fats, Crisco, Cool Whip, commercial salad dressing-it all has to go. Nothing will shut your child's immune system down faster than margarine. Oils to avoid that contain very long chain fats include canola oil, peanut oil and peanut butter and mustard. These fatty acids irritate the nervous system and the liver. Use liberal amounts of pure oils such as Omega Nutrition or Flora in your child's diet adding 1 to 2 Tablespoons of Sesame, Safflower,Sunflower, or Walnut oil per MEAL. Just mix this good oil right into their food. If your child loves french fries then fry organic frozen cut fries in Omega Nutrition coconut butter. Use organic, raw ground seeds and nuts in your child's diet as they are extremely rich in minerals and lipids. Grind dry in the blender and add to homemade (hopefully gluten free) muffins, pancakes, cookies, meatloaf, and so forth. "
