Guest guest
and Alison, I think that moms know best when it comes to this and if your gut tells you something is not right, then it probably isn't. , Colin is probably too young to officially diagnose, but keep an eye on him. When he turns 4, you may be able to take him to a neurologist and have an eval done. You could try now, but he/she will probably say he is too young yet. But don't be too quick to say " Boys will be boys " because you are sensing that something is amiss. Try to observe him with other kids and at home and list what you do not think is " normal. " Keep a log with dates, times, etc so that you have a running record and can see if there are any patterns. We knew that Max had ADD when he was that age, but could not do anything to help him until he was 5 and it was interfering with his learning at school. We had tried vision therapy in the meaentime, but I don't know if it helped or not. Alison, I does sound like there is more going on with Jake and you are right on top of it. I sure hope he is not having seizures, though. Again, we've been down that road with Max, but he did not have seizures. It was related to his ADD and medication helped once we found the right combination. Both of you can email me privately if you have more questions. I am always happy to help. In the meantime, please remember about Mom's intuition. It's very important. Jodi Z.
Guest guest
& Alison- My son is 3 and I thought something might be up(I have a 6 yr old son, that does not behave the way christopher does) He is in nursery school and the teacher noticed this as well. his mind moves sooo fast, he goes from one thing to another very quickly. his attention span is a min. at most(sometimes longer depending what it is that he is doing) I mentioned it to our ped and while he is too young to test she believes it is very possible that he is ADHD. I had our elementry school do an evaul on him to see if he qualified for their PALS program (disabled preschool program) and he did. He now goes 3x per week and recieves OT and the structure and routine that we believe he needs. It has helped a great deal, since starting the program we are actually able to go out to dinner as a family and not have a headache after from having to chase him around. He now sits still a little longer than before (dont get me wrong he is still hyper) but he will be in this program for 2 more years before entering kindergarten. it is our hope and the school's that by that time we may have it under control(so it doesnt interfer with his or his peers learning) with out having to medicate (but if we need to then that is what we will do). next year he will go to the program 5x a week. he is very bright and picks up on things, he is just on fast forward and hyper-speed all day(very exhausting for me by the days end!! LOL!!) i agree with Jodi Zwain if you feel there is something more to it, then check into it. good luck. jodie (nicholas-6 nonrss, christopher-3 1/2 rss 23lbs 33 " ght genotropin .6 ADHD (possible), johnathon-10m nonrss)
Guest guest
Thank you Jodi & Alison, I will keep my eye on him and mention it to the Ped next visit. He isn't " hyper " and can sit and focus on something for a period of time if it is something he is interested in. I will also ask his preschool teachers what they think. Good luck with the testing for seizures, Alison. Let us know what they find out. > and Alison, > > I think that moms know best when it comes to this and if your gut > tells you something is not right, then it probably isn't. > > , Colin is probably too young to officially diagnose, but keep > an eye on him.
