O.K. all you experienced parents using GHR I got a question? Our Endo said

once our son started GH we should see an increase in my sons eating. We

have been on the shots for about 2 weeks... is it still to early or are some

kids appetites not helped with GHR ? Would appreciate any comments!!!

Hi Sindy-

Dominic has been on GHT for 1.5 years and I have not seen any

increase in appetite. I am curious to see what the other parents say.

Sindy,

We're real new at this, too, less than two weeks on GH. It may be my

imagination or hopeful thinking, but Abby seems like she's eating

more to both me and my husband. We've always had problems getting

her to eat and when she didn't want to eat she would take 45 min to

over an hour to eat. And often when she ate really good one day she

wouldn't eat much the next day. It's been about a week and a half on

GH and she seems to be eating more and much faster than she was. And

it's been pretty regular instead of one day on, one day off.

It's probably too soon to tell. As I said, it could just be our

imaginations, but we feel pretty good about her eating right now.

Studies of GH and RSS/SGA kids do show that their body mass index

does increase with growth hormone, but I haven't seen it with

. Her muscle mass certainly increased!!! HA!

But no, I don't think that you would see an increase in just 2

weeks. I think. I am guessing here, but I think that because these

kids' height velocity often DOUBLES with growth hormone, that means

that their bodies will need double the calories, just to keep their

weight proportion the same. So yes, they would have to eat that

much more just to stay the same weight level. Since your son has

only been on for 2 weeks, and probably hasn't seen a major jump in

height yet, the weight wouldn't show as much yet???

has been on gH for 2 years, and we've noticed a definite improvement

in his appetite. But it wasn't immediate, it was a gradual process, over many

months. I think as the gH helped him to start growing faster, his body needed

more calories, and that caused him to have more of an appetite. In fact, now

he eats so well that we no longer give him Periactin.
