Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My Dr (GP)'s Nurse Just called and Said I had Anemia, she asked what Iron and Prenatals i was taking I told her 2 324 MG ferrus Gluconate and 1 prenatal a day with 28 mg of Iron she relayed this to the DR and he said well don't do anything different. OK so I asked his nurse what should I do to improve the Anemia ? What can I do how will it get better if I don't do any more than what I am she said she did not know and acted like she wasn't concerned. i am e-mailing my surgeons Nurse right now but since I see them Friday she probably will not do anything. Should I call my OB/GYN? Or Just talk to the Surgeon Friday? I knew I was feeling very week and Cold all the time. I knew something must be wrong because I had blurred vision and can hardly hold my head up at times. I really thought maybe i wasn't getting enough calories but never thought my iron was low. To top that all off I am having a bit of Gas Destress today UGH when i am pregnant I always Crave fresh Veggies ( salads) and Fruits . And Have been eating big bowls of salad and 2 peaches a day for the past few days I think it is catching up to me. And to even top it off further Dry Heaves off and on all day . Sorry to be such a Whiner I just wonder if anyone else has experienced anemia and what can I do to help the iron absorb or to increase my Iron Or will it be dangerous to take any more iron. Any thing besides ORGAN MEATS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! UGH !!!!!!!!!!!!! just thining the word Liver makes me gag. Guest guest
Jenni Do you know your lab values? What are they looking at to determine your anemia? I know that for normal OB patients the doctors look at the hemoglobin and hematocrit and call anemia. We should also be looking at our iron, TIBC, B-12 level, ferritin and folate. Personally, I would check with your surgeon re: whether or not you need more supplements. As far as your other symptoms (weak, blurred vision, tired)...I would look at your daily intake. Are you getting adequate protein? how about your calories and fluid? It is common in the first trimester to be tired...but feeling so weak you can't pick up your head would concern me. I am about 1 month behind you with a EDC of 2-5-05. I push for over 100 gms of protein a day (usually 60 gms from protein shakes). For me, my doctors told me to get about 2000 calories a day...I have been averaging about 1500. Good luck with getting this resolved. Let me know if I can help you with anything... Guest guest
, My levels were excellent before pregnancy, but the pregnancy depleted everything I had. Yes, the baby takes what it needs from you and THANK THE LORD that I had it to take from. The baby was born healthy but I can't imagine how it would have affected him if I hadn't been to start with. I'm not trying to scare you but to tell you so you can start preparing NOW, not later. I am currently getting IV iron infusions to work on the iron deficiency anemia. I see another specialist tomorrow regarding my calcium deficiency. I need thousands of dollars worth of dental work, and I've had 3 asbcessed teeth, 2 pulled and 1 root canal. please please please take the deficiency seriously before it destroys your health. I didn't KNOW I needed calcium CITRATE not any other calcium's during pregnancy. I cannot stress this enough. There was another person in here who was getting the IV iron while she was pregnant so that is an option. Leafy greens and organ meats (uh oh- dreaded liver- lol) and cook in an iron skillet (I didn't even know they still made those!). Take care of yourself and that baby!!
