Guest guest
Hi , Are you sure the Rhogam doesn't have thimerosal in it? I thought that Rhogam did, regardless of what the FDA 'banned.' However, I do know that a similar shot, for Rh negative mothers, called 'WinRho' IS thimerosal-free. Lyn Redwood had it listed at her website. I'l have to go check it out. I received a total of 4 Rhogam shots for 2 kids and with the next kid, I am going with the WinRho. If Rhogam shots do NOT have thimerosal in them, then I will go with them. Hmmm.. I'll have to do some checking on this one. Will let you all know when I find out more. - do you have information about Rhogam NOT having thimerosal in it? Did you get it off the net somewhere and if you did, could you post it? Thanks, Penny > > Rh shot > > > > Sorry, I missed this in previous posts. What does > > this shot have in it? Guest guest
Sorry Penny, I lost my link to the site that I found info on rho gam that contains no thimersol in a comp.crash last month and can't remember as it was a year ago I looked into it. I do remember finding info easily on a search. Our doc didn't even know that it contained thimersol :-( An important thing to note on RH factor is that many doctors will make you take Rho gam unnecesarily. You can request that blood be taken from the cord at birth and tested before getting the shot. Many doctors make mothers take the shot prior to birth and after without knowing if there is even going to be a need for it. Rho gam is a blood product. The Rho gam shots with Thimersol are still out there - I got one last year after the birth of my daughter.... Moira
Guest guest
Penny, i think you are right on this. Rhogam still has thimerisol and the " Winrho ' did not. I couldnt remember the name. Guest guest
I did a little search about the Rhogam shot. It's made by Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics - a division of and . I can't find anything about it ever being recalled due to its thimerosal content. I did, however, find the package insert information for Rhogam, but I CAN'T open it or download it for some reason. If someone could and either open it and see and email me privately, or send to the list if others are interested, here's the site: http://www.orthoclinical.com/bsproduct.asp?name=rho&prodsection=overview&pag e=1 Thanks! I did also find a great FDA site (believe it or not!) that lists everything recalled by the FDA and it's mighty scary folks. Rhogam was recalled VOLUNTARILY on 2 occasions and they lists lot numbers and dates, The 2 recalls were 3-9-98 and 10-16-97. They were for 'anti-D levels were wrong' - I have no idea what that means. The FDA site for recalls is: http://www.fda.gov/cber/recalls.htm The one talking about the Rhogam recall is: http://www.fda.gov/cber/recalls/rhod-ig3.htm So, from what I can figure out, what I suspected I think is true - that all the Rhogam out there has thimerosal in it. I received 4 of the shots altogether, with 2 kids. I received a shot AFTER each birth after they had checked the kids blood type. My kids are O pos and I am A neg. The shots during my 7th month of pregnancy were for the possibility of placental abruption. Sorry this post was so long folks, just thought I wanted to pass on some good info. Guest guest
Penny - I wasn't able to copy and paste the ingredients, but I could read it. It does say that it contains " .003% thimerosal (mercury derivative) " I also got 4 of these shots - they never bothered to test my kid's blood before giving me the shot after either of their births. My last shot was May 1 2000 and I did read the package insert and it did have thimerosal, but my doctor talked me into the shot.
