Guest guest
I recommend you change your ob/gyn. I didn't feel very great about my first ob/gyn either, so I made an appointment with another ob/gyn. I'm really glad I did, my new ob/gyn is a lot friendlier... the office and staff are a lot nicer! If you are not sure about ditching the first dr. then keep going to those appointments until you can get in to see the new dr. As for the pregnancy test, my first ob/gyn did not due any kind of confirmation either. She said that with the home pregnancy test and the missed period that I was pregnant... I would have felt better if she had done a blood test or something... > Alright it has been 10 years since I did this. My first child was > born disabled - alot of complications and very high risk. Guest guest
Sherry, I am sorry you had such a bad time. I may have missed it your original email, but how did you pick this particular doctor? If you don't feel comfortable with this doctor find a new one (even if you go to the sonogram)...Unfortunately sometimes office staff can be a little rude. The doctor may not even know it. It is helpful to the doctor to hear of your experience with the office staff. I went today for my first visit and it was great...but, I work with this doctor at my hospital (I am an L&D nurse). He has been my doctor for the last 5+ yrs. He knows my history (of my many miscarriages the past three have occurred under his care). Anyway, I hope you get it all worked out. Your pregnancy (including the drs visits) should be a happy memory. Good Luck AZ
Guest guest
sherry, externally, its hard to hear a FHB (fetal heart beat) at 8 weeks. With an internal US, it is usually possible at 8 weeks. Next week at the sonogram you will be able (most likely) to see and hear the FHB. But with that being said, if you aren't comfortable with this practice, find someone else now. Many don't want the responsibility later in the pregnancy. Since the OB docs and nurses see pregnancy all the time, it is routine to them. Since we aren't pregnant and as familiar with pregnancy as often as they are, IT IS SPECIAL TO US even if it isn't to them. I wouldn't tolerate it one second. Find someone else, preferably someone who comes highly recommended! Sheila L&D RN
Guest guest
Yeah.. I would find another doctor.. I can't stand to be treated like a moron.. and don't tolerate it at all! As far as the baby goes.. they can hear the heartbeat on ultrasound as early as 6 weeks.. but doppler.. my doctor wouldn't even try before 10 weeks.. I don't think you are being particular at all.. This is your BABY you're talking about.. and nothing less than caring, considerate doctors should do! I had this happen to me last month: I have asthma.. and as a result, I get bronchitis VERY easily. 2 months ago, I had asked my doctor about meds for allergies to help control my asthma.. she suggested Claritin.. fine.. went on claritin. then, last month, 2 days before my checkup, I developed bronchitis.. all kinds of yucky green stuff.. Went to the doctor.. sick, coughing, feeling completely AWFUL and you know what she did?? She came in, asked if I was having any problems.. I, through my cough, told her about the bronchitis, and she had the GALL to say " You need to schedule an appointment with your family doctor " . HELLO??!!!! I thought I was under the care of my OB while I was pregnant!! I was (am) furious.. I went to an after-hour clinic.. and sure enough, had bronchitis and was running a fever.. this was less than 2 hours after leaving her office.. I called the nurse the next morning and demanded to change doctors.. Trish > Alright it has been 10 years since I did this. Guest guest
I know how you feel about those docs. I think they are so busy these days we do not get the personal care we want or need anymore. I would say though that your first appt sounds about right. Mine did not do anything either except a pap smaear since I had not had one and a lab slip for alot of bloodwork. That is standard around here. Other than that i felt like nothing was done for awhile aafter that and they did not check for a heartbeat for awhile via the doppler but they did see it on the sonogram. i would go for that appt if I were you and see how you feel after that. That way you can at least get the sonogram and see how the baby is doing. I had bleeding for ALL my pregnancies and it is quite common. Yours has stopped thank God so you are probably fine. I hope the doc at least gave you some prenatal vitamins and told you to get some folic acid. Make sure you take all you vitamins and eat as well as can be and you should be fine. I am 41 years old too so i was quite worried this pregnancy because of my age but things have been going well and I am now 33 weeks. Take care and if things are not better at your next appt then I would switch to someone you feel more comfortable with... Not ALL drs and practices are like that... but some are. With my first.. HCM group was HORRIBLE.... you get better care at a free clinic... See what the U/S holds.. if you still don't like 'em... find another practice... maybe one with a midwife? Lots of practices down here in Florida have midwives.. - Mommy to: Noah - 10/14/02 - 31 weeker - 3lbs 11 oz Deanna Marie or Jonah due November 18th - 2004 http://www.love-my-kids.com
Guest guest
I don't think you are moody I think you should find another doctor. If you have these feelings from your first appointment form the entire staff you need to find sombody that makes you feel important and welcomed with 100% trust between you and the doctor. I would find another and at the moment I'm not feeling perticularly moody. I think I would still show up for the US because it might be awhile styill before sombody else can take you as a new patient and the US will put your mind at ease but definately LOOK for another doc. - Diane > Alright it has been 10 years since I did this.
