Guest guest
OMG, That is FREAKYYYYYY. I have never heard of anyone purposely going in like that to preach about bf but i think it is a persdonal choice for all who do it or don't do it and I know bf is not for me so I will not be doing it. If I felt more comfortable with my body ( my boobs sag down to my belly) nad they were not all sweaty all summer than I may try it but I just do NOT feel comfortable. I think it is great for those that do though and if I was a tad bit more comfortable with it I would at least try for a few weeks. I am glad you told that woman where to go. Guest guest
Ah.. the Breastfeeding Nazi's..... While Breastfeeding IS best for baby... there are other viable options.. and now that formula contains the DHA and RHA.. they are even better then before! My son was born 9 weeks early... HAD to be bottle fed because of the severe Reflux and needed rice cereal in his bottle. I pumped every 3 hours for 3.5 weeks... and was lucky to squeeze an ounce out... and then my supply just decreased ... I was upset... angry... stressed out... had a baby in NICU.... Well.... every day the nurses would call me and tell me to bring in more BM...um... none is coming out! So.. finally I said .. go to Formula... At that point I was cornered by 2 Lactation consultants and 3 nurses ..... baraging me on the benefits of breastfeeding and why was I not doing EVERYTHING I could for my sick little boy! I was PISSED!!! I told them I had EVERY right to choose Formula... and Formula it will Be.. END of discussion. I then complained to the DON and to the NICU Dr's. Noah is 19 months old and has had 1 ear infection 3 months ago... healthy as a little horse. I mourn the fact that I was not able to have that bond.. and really pray that this time I can. - Mommy to: Noah - 10/14/02 - 31 weeker - 3lbs 11 oz Deanna Marie or Jonah due November 18th - 2004 http://www.love-my-kids.com

Guest guest
, I can't believe that someone would do that to a pregnant woman but then again in this world....anything is possible. I am so proud of you for telling her where to go and what to do. I am not considering breastfeeding as I do not produce enough milk so does that make me a bad mother/person that doesn't have my baby's interests in mind? I would love to have succeeded in breastfeeding but it didn't happen. I am so happy that I have been given the chance to be pregnant again and give my ten year old daughter a sister. Best wishes to you!!...hey you got $20 gift card of it....not bad!! Guest guest
2 words for that lady: cuckoo, cuckoo! What a loon! A comeback I was taught a while back when someone asks an inappropriate question is " Why do you ask? " . That way YOU put THEM on the spot. She was way outta line! WlsMomma > I recently asked a friend of mine about breastfeeding, since she had her first child within the last year. I just wanted to know if she did it, was successfull, etc. She said she couldn't, explained why, and warned me about what she called " breastfeeding nazi's. " Said to do what was right for me, and not worry about those people. > Well, didn't think much of it, or really know what she was talking about until last night. > > Last night, went to babies r us, just to peruse the stuff, and walked into the formula aisle and stopped by the similac formula. Personally, I am planning on trying to breastfeed, but want to know about formula in case I have to go to plan " B " . My husband works for the company that makes similac (and if we need formula we get a 60% discount) so that is where I stopped and was reading the cans. > > A woman came up to me, obviously not pregnant, about 50-60 years old, and asked me if I was planning on breastfeeding. I looked at her, and she was wearing clothes SIMILAR to the babies r us employees, so I assumed she worked there and was offering me assistance. I told her yes, I was planning on trying to breastfeed, but wanted to check out formula just in case, etc. She proceeded to tell me that breastfeeding was the ONLY option for me and my baby, SHAME on me for even thinking of using formula, how could I even consider it when breastfeeding is better, that if I wasn't planning on breastfeeding I should not be having a child because I OBVIOUSLY don't have the childs best interests at heart. > > I was FLOORED. Then hormones took over, I told her to kiss my ass, that it was NONE of her business what I was going to do, and said I was going to speak to her manager right now. I went to the customer service desk, told the manager, and they called security to get rid of the woman, apologizing profusely, stating she was not an employee, that sometimes they get wacko people in there preaching about breastfeeding and they dress similar to employees to prey on moms to be, that they come in the store wearing a jacket or something to cover the polo shirt that looks like the stores uniform. > Sure enough, security got her, and her coat, which she took off and stuffed into a stroller once she was inside the store. > OMG..........I was SO freaked out. Has anyone had anything like this happen or heard of anything like this before? > Never in a million years did I think I would meet someone like that. > > The good part about it (if you can find a good part) is that the store manager gave me a $20 gift card for my troubles. > > C. > WLS 8/28/02 > EDD 12/31/04 > >

Guest guest
I've always affectionately referred to them as " Lactation Nazis " ... heheh It's up to each individual mom, and people just don't seem to " get " that. It's as if we live in this Nanny World where we need busybodies telling us what decisions to make. Pulleez. I'm sorry you had to be accosted by this freak. -Kris Wood
Guest guest
The Worst i had was Nurses and Wic pushing me to breast feed One nurse Drilling me on why I wouldn't breast feed she also told me it was my duty as a mother. I have fibercystic ( sp?) breast disease and felt uncomfortable doing it, the one Nurse even told me that was a Stupid Excuse and Ithat my children would not be as intelegent if they were formula fed... and well as a Matter of fact Both my children were very early talkers, Michelea was reading at a 4th Grade level in 2nd grade, and was even in Spelling bees, Roller Skating and Gymnastics at age 2 .. Gabby had milk allergies and had to be on Soy milk because she was lactose intollerant so I could not have any way. But I do think anyone that can breast feed that is wonderful it should be everyones preference That lady sounds certifiable. Guest guest
Hi All, I definately understand both sides of the breastfeeding/formula issue. No one in my family had or has ever breastfed. My grandmother had 9 kids and they were all fed PET milk or Formula. I was formula fed....etc etc. I was brought up that breastfeeding was for wierdo's and hippies. But I always thought it was beautiful and natural and wanted to at least try. I have to say I went through 8 weeks of hell trying to breastfeed . I was so tense and he was colicky....it wasn't fun. I kept wanting to quit and get formula but my husband was extremely encouraging since he had grown up in a house where his mother had breast fed all 6 of them and his sisters had all breast fed their kids.....so I was supported through tears. I also had a great lactation consultant and pediatrician that helped whenever I had a question. Everyone also said I could quit at anytime. I had 52DDD breasts and flat nipples so it was hard...My poor baby his head was like a soft ball and my breast was like a huge bowling ball....!!! I can laugh now....but it was embarrassing and I never breastfed in public I always brought the pump.... I am planning on breastfeeding this time around if I can....but if I can't I won't feel badly. Who knows how WLS has changed my body in this instance. I understand completely how some of you may be feeling uncomfortable with your body...I lived in that land and still do when I see myself naked. I have often compared myself to looking like a Sharpei wrinkle dog naked.......but I also liked the selfishness of breastfeeding. I lost weight very quickly and only I could feed my son.....he was all mine. When I pumped daddy could help but always wanted me and I loved that. As I said before its a complete personal choice. I wouldn't like anyone coming up to me and telling me anything.....! I would be so irritated and someone could get hurt. I hate rude people. Chrystal Wife to Jace - together 6 Years!
