Guest guest
I recently asked a friend of mine about breastfeeding, since she had her first child within the last year. I just wanted to know if she did it, was successfull, etc. She said she couldn't, explained why, and warned me about what she called " breastfeeding nazi's. " Said to do what was right for me, and not worry about those people. Well, didn't think much of it, or really know what she was talking about until last night. Last night, went to babies r us, just to peruse the stuff, and walked into the formula aisle and stopped by the similac formula. Personally, I am planning on trying to breastfeed, but want to know about formula in case I have to go to plan " B " . My husband works for the company that makes similac (and if we need formula we get a 60% discount) so that is where I stopped and was reading the cans. A woman came up to me, obviously not pregnant, about 50-60 years old, and asked me if I was planning on breastfeeding. I looked at her, and she was wearing clothes SIMILAR to the babies r us employees, so I assumed she worked there and was offering me assistance. I told her yes, I was planning on trying to breastfeed, but wanted to check out formula just in case, etc. She proceeded to tell me that breastfeeding was the ONLY option for me and my baby, SHAME on me for even thinking of using formula, how could I even consider it when breastfeeding is better, that if I wasn't planning on breastfeeding I should not be having a child because I OBVIOUSLY don't have the childs best interests at heart. I was FLOORED. Then hormones took over, I told her to kiss my ass, that it was NONE of her business what I was going to do, and said I was going to speak to her manager right now. I went to the customer service desk, told the manager, and they called security to get rid of the woman, apologizing profusely, stating she was not an employee, that sometimes they get wacko people in there preaching about breastfeeding and they dress similar to employees to prey on moms to be, that they come in the store wearing a jacket or something to cover the polo shirt that looks like the stores uniform. Sure enough, security got her, and her coat, which she took off and stuffed into a stroller once she was inside the store. OMG..........I was SO freaked out. Has anyone had anything like this happen or heard of anything like this before? Never in a million years did I think I would meet someone like that. The good part about it (if you can find a good part) is that the store manager gave me a $20 gift card for my troubles. C.
