Guest guest
Wow! it seems funny to me that someone doesn't know what a Dbb is. I guess that is like what happens when someone younger then you doesn't know who the Bay City Rollers are! It makes you feel old, lol! Dr. Dobbs modified a Dennis Brown Bar (Dbb), or maybe its classed as a new invention....anyhow, it is similar in its use. They both keep the feet and ankles flexed and turned in the over-corrected position to retain the correction to the foot/feet. The Dbb is stationary. It has no flexability with the use of joints. I finally saw my first Dobbs Bar on our last trip in mid March. Very cool looking. I'll leave the more tech description to the pros..... Cheers! and Shalom doulagal2002 bingham6@...> wrote: I was just curious.... what's the diffrence between the DBB and the Dobbs brace? Are they two diffrent braces that do the same thing? Guest guest
anne... my little grace has the Dobb's brace and it is awsome.... i love it... well as much as anyone can love a hoof harness... (pet name for them in our family...) if you go to the clubfootpics and look at the FAB folder... and in the that folder is a tab for Dobb's and his brace is pictured in there.. each foot is on a hinge and the feet can be moved independently... it really makes all the difference in the world... especially since grace was much older (14 months) when she went back into the brace... (she was treated non-ponseti for the first 13 months) the DBB is two little open toed white shoes bolted onto a straight metal bar... there should be pictures of that also in the clubfootpics section .... hth... mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 23/7 doulagal2002 bingham6@...> wrote: I was just curious.... what's the diffrence between the DBB and the Dobbs brace? Guest guest
Can someone put a pic of the Dobbs brace on this group's files or else email me a pic privately at karen@... They sound great, I'm very curious to see what they look like. Does he use the Markell shoe or can you use other shoes? How much do they cost? Guest guest
Thanks so much for all the info and great pics you sent me. Quite an ingenious design, I'm glad that these are really working well for you! The price of $1800 is pretty steep though for people without any US medical insurance - like us in South Africa!. Hopefully someday all FAB's will be 'equal' and we'll have a standard mass-produced model that's affordable, doesn't produce blisters - and can be worn comfortably by the littlest feet and the atypical ones! With the growing popularity of the Ponseti method there's no reason why it shouldn't happen soon. BTW has always been in Markells and apart from a few minor gripes like short straps, constantly breaking straps, etc. he adapted to them quickly and never had problems like blisters etc. We're going on for nearly 2 years wearing of the FAB now, I can't believe it's so long already, it's gone by so fast... Guest guest
I do know what a DBB is... my son wears one 24/7, but I didn't know what the Dobbs brace was. Sorry if I made that unclear. Guest guest
Don't feel bad Anne! I didn't know what a dobbs brace was until someone (a paitent of dr. dobbs) mentioned it on this board. How would someone who wasn't either a patient of dr. dobbs or active on this board know what a dobbs brace was?? There are pics of it on the CFpics site, Kori has created a file under bracing for the dobbs brace. & Grace 07-21-04 right unilateral cf FAB 14 hrs > > > > I was just curious.... what's the diffrence between the DBB and > the > > Dobbs brace? Guest guest
thanks allison... actually one of those pictures is the one i sent to the other two people asking me about them... i got them off the clubfootpics board since i haven't downloaded grace's pictures lately... so that is perfect... i personally like the AFO style shoe better... just seems to be less likely to leave any blisters behind... i just had to be so careful when we used the Markell's and seemed like if i didn't have them on just perfect it would leave a blister or at least a break in the skin... the plastic AFO that grace has on this brace seems like it almost impossible to do wrong... and i think a lot of that has to do with the soft rubber insert that goes around the foot... which when you have a squirmy kid that wants to run away that really helps... lol... and that is all my personal opinion and not from a doctor at all... i am just so thankful we found doctor dobb's and his brace and can't say enough about it... so you've seen... lol... mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 23/7 jagrindon jagrindon@...> wrote: Since so many people are asking about the pics of the Dobbs brace I put a couple pics of it in a folder called " Dobbs " here on this board. That way people can see it if they are not members of the CFPics group. (If this is not okay, I know photo space is at a premium here, I won't be offended if someone asks me to remove them.) I put one pic of the brace w/ the AFO style shoes and one w/ the Markells. It's not a great shot so if anyone has a better angle, please feel free to replace mine. These pics are of the Dobbs brace made at Children's hospital.
