Guest guest
those scientists who coined the phrase 'intelligent design' are the smart ones at least acknowledging they may not ever be able to work out all the complexities of life - those who think they know it all are a little naive or not v deep thinkers (imho)... Guest guest
I have hashimoto's and vitiligo both of which are autoimmune and I can't help but think there is some connection to mito also. pamelama33 pamelama33@...> wrote: yes i've been told i have hashimotos. call me cynical but i dont believe anything these days till i hear it 3 times. now you've been told by 3 docs and i by one i guess i can believe this one for now! thks Laurie Re: Hello > > > > > > > > Hypothyroidism can be a part of mito. Guest guest
I'm sorry, I must have wrote it the wrong way. I meant that *some* people with mito disease may have an autoimmune element, not all by any means. Any protein in the body could theoretically be the target of a wayward antibody. But it is interesting that a fair number of us on the list have a documented autoimmune disease in addition to mito; hypothyroidism and diabetes seem relatively common on this list, although one might argue that having an additional condition makes it more likely for adult-onset mito to occur. Or vice versa - dysfunction in energy production might make a borderline condition manifest. Anticardiolipin antibodies seem to be present intermittently, I've been told, and aren't a marker of all autoimmune conditions. I haven't gotten an explanation for my one-time high level other than " autoimmune disease could be present " . I don't mean that I think all mito disease is due to autoimmune issues. IMHO, getting a decent immunologist is more difficult than finding a mito disease specialist - they just don't exist and aren't on insurance plans (unless it is research only, and that needs to be an exact niche for your condition). I am working in immunology now, so am working on finding a contact to review this issue for my case. Guest guest
I admit I haven't been following the hypothyroid discussion so I'm not sure what the original question was. Just thought I'd mention that when I left the neurogeneticist's office a couple of weeks ago, she gave me a handout that included some of the main symptoms of mito. Of course not everyone has all of the symptoms listed. ALso, compared to other lists I've seen, it was relatively short. But my point is that it definitely included hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. --Shayna > > > > > Laurie just wondering why hypothyroidism (which I've had > since > > > 13) given > > > > > the label autoimmune is not linked to mito?
