Guest guest
I don't post much anymore but still follow along...this is an interesting discussion about Tylenol. I agree that if at all possible it's better to take nothing. I will forever wonder about the effect of medication on my son. We had to undergo fertility treatment for Evan--I took Chlomid for several months. Then after I was pregnant, they had me on progesterone to guard against bleeding and miscarriage. This was during the first weeks of gestation when the research says clubfoot occurs. There is no apparent connection between these drugs and any birth defects, but as a momma I will always wonder. Anyone else have experience with these drugs? Shelley and Evan (8-17-00 bcf, femoral torsion) > > I agree that you shouldn't blame yourself for this. Guest guest
No experience with the medications but wanted to say I though the cf came along later, almost mid term in the pregnancy and that is why it is often not seen on the routine early ultrasounds. I thought it came about around the 20 week mark but correct me if I'm wrong. s. I This was during the first weeks of gestation when the research says clubfoot occurs. Guest guest
Yes, Dr Ponseti told us sometime during the 2nd trimester. I had a full scan before amniocentesis at almost 20 weeks and they specifically checked for clubfoot among other things. didn't have clubfoot then, it developed sometime after that. and www.clubfoot.co.za Moss Steps Charity www.steps.org.za Re: Medication and clubfoot I think the Global Help Booklet says 16-23 weeks. > No experience with the medications but wanted to say I though the cf came along later, almost mid term in the pregnancy and that is why it is often not seen on the routine early ultrasounds. Guest guest
i had a scan at 22 weeks and you could not detect the BCF... i had always wondered until i researched why they didn't see it then... when i went back and looked at the picture i realized that it wasn't visible or deformed yet.. the feet were normal... which shocked me even more... the thought that the foot started out normal and then suddenly wham.. there it is... kind of interestnig.. i have always wondered this though... one of the things they do the scan for is to detect clubfoot... but a lot of the time it is not able to be detected yet or is missed... seems like that just leads to a lot more heartache on the mommy's parts.. to be told we are checking for this this and this.. and to be told all is good.. and then have a clubfoot baby.. just food for thought.. luckily for me i didn't have as much guilt as a lot of mother's i'm sure experience... it seems to run in my family so it wasn't all that much of a shock.. just the details were interesting... mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 16/7 Moss karen@...> wrote: Yes, Dr Ponseti told us sometime during the 2nd trimester. Guest guest
They caught Bryce's RCF at our 19 week ultra sound and then confirmed it at about 22 weeks.
Guest guest
I was first questioned at our 19 week ultra sound and all that was said was that they couldn't see the flat part of his right foot. At the 22 week ultrasound it just looked like a hook. I was told by my doctor that 2 things that could cause a club foot are genetics and lack of room, meaning if the baby grows faster than the uterus allows for room. The foot then just bends to still find room to keep growing. Our baby was much bigger this time but I didn't seem to get that much bigger, so the second would make more sense to me since we couldn't trace it genetically in our families. Guest guest
's showed up on a 15 week scan... I think I remember Dr. Ponseti saying it's between 14 and 22 weeks... --------- Re: Medication and clubfoot I think the Global Help Booklet says 16-23 weeks. > No experience with the medications but wanted to say I though the cf came along later, almost mid term in the pregnancy and that is why it is often not seen on the routine early ultrasounds. Guest guest
we had a scan at 22 week; the clubfeet were quite pronounced at that point. Ponseti believes it probably began around week 12. reid jones jones_reid@...> wrote:we had a scan at 19 weeks and they detected BCF. Guest guest
wow.. i wish i could show ya'll the scan picture from 22 weeks... they couldn't have been more straight... isn't that just weird... i guess she was just a late bloomer!!! lol... but that is strange considering how severe the BCF was... i was amazed that it could even be corrected... becasue it was so bad.. and her doctor said she was one of the most severe cases he'd seen in a long time... mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 16/7 faith slattery simone057@...> wrote: we had a scan at 22 week; the clubfeet were quite pronounced at that point.
