Guest guest
Leah - I would recommend that you call MAGIC and order article #H- 35 " Anesthesia for a Child with -Silver Syndrome " by Anne Dickison; and H-38 " -Silver Syndrome " Anesthetic Implications " by Dinner, Goldin Ward & Levy (printed in the medical journal Anesthesia & Analogics). I would also recommend #H-43, letter by Dr. Harbison which states about RSS/SGA kids not going more than 4 hours without eating. If your daughter spills ketones in the morning often anyway, ABSOLUTELY I would recommend having the IV in if she is to NPO after midnight. Without a doubt, although I am not a doctor. Assuming she will have the procedure around 8 or 9, and not come out of it until what, 10am let's say, and then not feel like eating for a bit -- very dangerous it sounds like for her. This is a time where you have to demand. I made the BIG mistake for my own daughter Dec '02 and I paid for it dearly. Do NOT let the doctors dismiss your fears -- if you aren't comfortable voicing the information, hand them the medical journal published information.
