Time for a big boy bed?!

Well, Owen, at 2 and a bit is still in his crib...but only because

it's easier to 'contain' him at nap and bedtimes - as long as he's

wearing the brace (or so I thought!).

Yesterday after lunch I put Owen and Rhysie down for their naps (they

share a room) with strict instructions that there was to be no

fooling around and that they were to go straight to sleep (famous

last words...). About 40 minutes later (it HAD been quiet), I heard

their bedroom door opening and closing so I went to investigate.

Owen had managed to get one foot free of his FAB and had climbed out

of his crib only to pull every single wipe out of the container and

put them into the garbage!!!

Once I got the mess cleaned up and put his FAB back on him and put

him back into his bed I told him to get to sleep (Rhys, meanwhile,

was fast asleep and totally oblivious). I told him that if he took

his brace off again that I was going to be really angry. About 20

minutes later I again hear the door to their room. I stomped down

the hallway only to have the door slammed in my face and Owen on the

other side of the door trying to hold it closed (he knew he was in

trouble, the little stinker!). When I got in and was about to scold

him for taking his brace off again, I looked down and found that his

brace was still on...BOTH feet. I picked him up and put him back

into his bed and asked him how he got out of his bed - he shrugged at

me with this crooked little smile on his face. Then I said, " SHOW me

how you got out " ...next thing I knew, he was standing up in the

corner of the crib and using his upper body, he heaved himself up and

brought his knees up until his feet were level with the crib rail and

then he just slid down the rail so that he was almost laying on it

and then gentle let his feet fall over the outside and the rest of

his body followed while he hung on with his hands...then he grabbed

onto the slats and slid himself down to the floor. He made it look

so simple! He was extremely proud of himself too.

Guess it just goes to show that where there's a will, there's a way!

What a great story... he will love to hear that when he grows up... I had a

similar situation happen with my daughter at 2 1/2.. she was to be in her crib

napping and my husband came home to check on her while I was sitting about 10

feet outside of her bedroom and never heard a thing ... she had gotten out of

her crib and moved all of her stuffed animals and table and chairs and was

having a tea party ... she had been quite busy and I never heard it until my

husband peeked in on her and couldn't believe she had gotten out. The unique

part of your son doing it is making it happen with the shoes and bar on!!! That

is pretty good maneuvering on his part!!

Good luck with getting the big boy bed...

Wow!! What a little escape artist you have there!! Here i am worried

that wont be able to crawl properly with his brace on and

your little man is staging prison breakouts!

At least he showed you how he did it- the mystery of how he got out

would have driven me crazy!

Kids are just amazing!
