Guest guest
I received a copy of my MRI/MRA Scan. I have mito, and doc is still doing more test on biopsy. He believe I have Melas. I am new to this site, and it has been very helpful since finding out my medical condition. But on this mri report it states: " slight increased signal on T1 weighted images within the basal ganglia extending into mid brain bilaterally, suggesting the possibility of metabolic derangement related to hepatic dysfunction or hyperalimentation. " Now when I started looking things up, the basal ganlia mentioned 3 cluster of Neurons. One of them being Nucleus. I checked that out and it lead me to a article on Melas. What I wanted to know if this mri report also leads to dx of Melas. I couldn't find anything that would explain hyperalimentation, but hepatic dysfunction relates somehow to liver problems. Anything have any info on that? I couldn't find out anything on metabolic derangement either. So if anyone is familiar with these words, please let me know. Also is any one on the drug Siminet (cardopa/levo)? My doc was looking for any stroke like scars I am assuming in the brain, cause I have those stroke like episodes. The report also goes on to say, no intracranial mass or focal lesion. Again, any info would be a great help. Now do mito people have liver problems ususally? And those that have these stroke like seizures, does that leave any scaring or what ever in the brain? Because I can't have another mri because of the defibrillator. This MRI was done before the defib. cause I had a very bad stroke type seizure, which left weakness on the left side. I had to go to physical therapy, to fix my walking, talking and so on. Guest guest
I have residual weakness on my left side, yet all of my (eight) brain MRIs, with and without contrast, have been normal. However my MR SPECT was definitely abnormal. I used to regularly have stroke-like episodes, but since they are considered " metabolic strokes " , I've been told they are not expected to show up on a MRI. Guest guest
snow I think the doctor was wondering about scars which would appear as focal lesions. The rest sounds like it might be indicating a metabolic disfunction which mito is, but I could be wrong. laurie > I received a copy of my MRI/MRA Scan.
