Guest guest
I am happy to announce that is TALKING! We took him 100% casein free a week ago yesterday (we've been GF for about a month now).. Weds through Friday he was an ABSOLUTE PILL.. Horrible, Horrible, HORRIBLE.. Crying, screaming, disagreeable (not that he's terribly cooperative normally anyway, but even less so these days). Just wanted to sell him to the first gypsy I found.. We kept telling each other that it was opioid withdrawl (LOL, who knows?) but it was a tough few days.. Over the weekend, starting on Friday night and continuing on, something fantastic has started happening.. Josh has started communicating. He started by bringing me empty bottles and signing " more " and when I'd ask if he wanted more he'd get all excited and run to the fridge. Sometime over the weekend, it transformed from that to him coming to me, bottle held high SAYING " mom, mom, mom, mom, mom " .. He'd put the bottle in my lap and sign and SAY " more, more, more more " .. I'd ask him if he wanted more and he would tear out to the kitchen and wait by the fridge, clapping his hands.. Then yesterday he was wandering the house calling " Mom, mom, mom, mom, mom! " .. When he got to where I was, he came to me, arms held high.. I picked him up and he snuggled his head on my shoulder.. it's a moment I'll never forget. Today we've had a lot of cooperative play between us.. Him bringing me the bubbles to blow for him, and him trying to blow them himself.. Grabbing my hand and leading me to the televison so he can show me something, or pounding on the tele screen so that I'll change the station..I can tell when I've gotten to what he wanted to watch because he'll go over and lay on the giant boppy that I made for him with a little smile..Such an amazing turn.. I've been reluctant to share these things for fear that I'd jinx him or it and he'd stop.. It's been, what, 5 days now? since he started and he's still doing it, so perhaps it's safe for me to share.. Que Sera, Sera.. I am rather surprised tho, that his headbanging has returned.. He had stopped that after going GF, but yesterday and today we're back at it full force.. I walked in on him banging on the bedroom door earlier.. And our visual stims (wheels/fans/ect) have increased.. They never went away, but he had decreased them some.. Now they're back to where he was before.. Definite improvemnt in language, yet regression or worsening in this area.. Anyone have any ideas?? Anyway, just thought I'd share.. Guest guest
Such wonderful news!!! He is doing great! Ok, this is what I've been told about the return of old behaviors: when one area improves or they take a developmental leap forward, often they will regress in other areas temporarily. Then overall they will improve. We've seen some similar stuff here...great eye contact but worsening echolalia. You get the picture! It sounds like you are on the right track with the casein! Hugs, H, mom to 3 yrs, PDD, and 2 yrs, NT
