Guest guest
Poor guy. Try using the tucks type pads with witch hazel in them. It helps to sooth the hypersensitivity and toughens the skin a little. I just wiped the whole leg down each time I had the brace off. I did this a lot when we first got the brace and it really seemed to help. > > Hi, Just got the 3 week cast off and 's legs look horrible! They > are all bruised. Has anyone ever had this happen? Guest guest
Aleksander's legs were also bruised, but we were prepared for that since we were warned it may happen. The bruises went away quite quickly tough. He was a bit fussy when we touched his legs after the casts came off, but it wasn't too bad. We were also warned about this. You have to remember, your baby's legs have been in casts for quite a while now, and he isn't used to having anyone touch them. It is a new sensation for him, plus they are really tender from being in teh casts. That said, if you have any doubts about whether or not it is normal, it is always safest to err on the side of caution and at least call the doctor. A phone call doesn't hurt, in any case! - > > Hi, Just got the 3 week cast off and 's legs look horrible! They > are all bruised. Has anyone ever had this happen? Guest guest
i feel for you both... i was totally unprepared for the first time we changed grace's casts.... her legs were raw and " raw meat " looking... granted it never again looked that bad... but that was so scarey and all i could do was cuddle her and cry and ask why why why they looked like that.. the cast tech thought i was a basket case... i didn't know it was " normal " ... after that first time i got used to the bruised way they look... and it gets worse looking several hours later... it took till that night for grace's legs to stop looking bruised and just be red... i will advise this though.. just give him a warm bath but don't really scrub at all for several days... just run a wash cloth over his legs lightly with soap to get some of that excess dead skin off... but don't apply very much pressure at all... it can cause major irritation... it will take several days maybe even 1-2 weeks for the leg to look normal again... her doctor advised to not use lotion but i always have... and it only took about 4-5 days for her leg to be normal... but i can't advise it since the doctor told us not too... hth... mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 16/7 arfazzina arfazzina@...> wrote: Hi, Just got the 3 week cast off and 's legs look horrible! He is in the DBB now and between getting used to that, the sensitivity of his legs and feet from being in the cast and the bruises, we can barely touch his legs without him screeming! Guest guest
We did something similar, but with cotton pads and witch hazel. We still do that every night after his bath to make sure the skin is nice and dry. Really seems to help to keep the feet from smelling too. Now if I could just get my husband to do that.... > > > > Hi, Just got the 3 week cast off and 's legs look horrible! They > > are all bruised. Has anyone ever had this happen?
