Guest guest
A very good one - Dr. Colburn You can go the U of I website and review the whole list of approved doctors. And do not panic - CF treated with Ponseti's method is a piece of cake. A little bit of hassle but not a big deal. Relax and enjoy your pregnancy! Hi. I'm new to this group. I'm 23 weeks pregnant and during our ultrasound, we found out that our baby girl has bilateral clubfeet. I was wondering if anyone in this group has received treatment in the SF area and if they recommend any doctors? We are also considering flying out to Iowa for several weeks after the baby is born to seek treatment with Dr. Ponseti. Thank you!
Guest guest
Welcome to the group! We're glad you found us! I am aware of several doctors in the greater SF Bay area who are using the Ponseti method with tremendous success. Of these, Dr Colburn in Walnut Creek has been doing the Ponseti method the longest. He is happy to meet with you before your baby is born and to correspond via email. He practices out of Kaiser, but will accept non-Kaiser patients and then it is up to you to work things out with your insurance. We live on the North Coast (Arcata/Eureka area) and travel to Sacramento for our son's treatment at the Shriner's hospital. Two wonderful doctors there, Dr Lerman and Dr Boakes, have been using the Ponseti method for over 2 years. The care at Shriner's is provided entirely free of charge, including all shoes, braces, everything. I have recently been corresponding with a woman near San whose daughter is being treated by a Dr Debra Popejoy. I can provide you with contact information if you are interested. There may be other doctors in and around SF who are following the Ponseti method correctly, though I am not aware of them by name. Because I have seen their work fisrthand (though not on my own child), I would caution you against the doctors at both UCSF and Oakland Children's--or at least check carefully that they have changed the way they are doing things. The Ponseti method is a very particular method in which the bones of the foot are brought into alignment in a very specific way. It's not terribly hard to do, but it absolutely must be done just right. In addition, there is a rigid bracing protocol that needs be followed in order to prevent a relapse. Many doctors who claim to be using the Ponseti method are in fact only using parts of the method or modifying the method. Their results are less than satisfactory in nearly every case. Here are a few sites that will interest you as you search for more information: a guide to the Ponseti method is at: http://www.global-help.org/publications/cf-english.pdf a site of links compiled by a parent is at: http://members.tripod.com/ponseti_links-ivil//index.html My family joins me in wishing you and your family all of the best. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with. It seems daunting and overwhelming from where you are right now, but please try to enjoy your pregnancy and continue to look forward to the exciting arrival of your little girl. Guest guest
I'm posting a little late here but I STRONGLY urge you to see Dr. Colburn he is no doubt the best on the west coast and has offices in Pleasanton and Walnut Creek. It is Kaiser but he makes an exception and sees non-Kaiser patients. We live in Southern California and while there are certified Ponseti doctors close to us we drive 8 hours to see Dr. Colburn. I'm happy to share my story with you if you are interested. You can email me at hwray98@.... > > > Hi. I'm new to this group. Guest guest
Thank you! I think we will set up an appointment with Dr. Colburn before the baby is born. Does anybody know anything about Dr. Hoffinger at Oakland Children's too? We have heard that he is a good clubfeet doctor but we are wondering if he follows the Ponseti method. I am so relieved to find this group! Yuuko > > > > > > Hi. I'm new to this group. I'm 23 weeks pregnant and during our > > ultrasound, we found out that our baby girl has bilateral > clubfeet.
