Guest guest
thks laurie (hug) and rh (info) - penny is still in hospital as i think the high heart rate in Emergency (after standing quickly) scared everyone - it went up from 70 to 225 ! was repeated a half hour later going from 65 to 120. but today it's normal. she has been put under a regular physician and I gave her some info re mito and melas which she read and gave her an echo which was normal... she is also going to be seen by a cardiologist and they were wondering how far to go with the testing - apparently to check for the cardiac pathways there is some sort of invasive test (like an angiogram) and she hasn't even been confirmed with melas yet so they're not keen on doing that one at this stage. i had a whole list of things to ask the doc to exclude, including seizures strokes and cardiac things that I have collected from the documents and all your notes - starting running through it and she said - what, do you want to be the doctor? I said oh no of course not.... i mentioned brain mri to look for lactic acidosis or signs of seizure activity (my prof gave me a special one which you are probably all familiar with not sure of the name) and she challenged that saying that mri doesnt show lactic acidosis... anyway at least she's keeping her in to do some tests. if i get another chance i'll throw a few of your extra words in rh (absence seizures etc) although she said if penny had had a seizure she would have been shaking afterwards.... pamela (melas a3243g) Re: Daughter - another blackout - does sound like dysautonomia I guess I didn't pay much attention to my blackouts - they were never diagnosed as one particular thing or another. Although I do have absence seizures, and fall if I'm standing when I have one. I almost never feel dizzy before a blackout or absence seizure. I believe my blackouts are due to metabolic issues - " dysautonomia " is a symptom to me, not a condition. The messed up mitochondria are what I believe to be the culprit. As I treat that, my blackouts went away (mostly LOL). Eating too much or having a sensitive stomach can cause blackouts, due to interactions between the (is it vagus?) nerve controlling the heart rate and the digestive tract. Supposedly that is why the Pres. blacked out from the pretzel, got stuck in his esophagus and stimulated the nerve to slow the heart rate enough to black out. Take care, RH
