Guest guest
> How does one manage this diet at daycare and school and what kind of > response do you get when it is suggested? > Thanks, Kathy My son is in first grade. I send his lunch with him each day, and I send snacks for his teacher to keep for him if the other kids are getting a snack. She lets me know if there are any special occasions coming up and what they have planned, so I can send an appropriate snack for Graeme. His teacher has been wonderful and very cooperative. She always asks me if it's okay for Graeme to have something before giving it to him. She asked me for a list of approved snacks to keep so she could check it in case she forgets. We have had slip ups, but mainly from other teachers who didn't know or fortot (the computer lab teacher likes to use M&M's for rewards and it never occurred to me to speak to art, music or other special teachers - don't forget to let them know about the diet too! Strangely enough, the M&M's didn't seem to have a negative effect on Graeme that I could tell).
Guest guest
I getting off this list any day, as I cannot keep up with the volume of e-mails. But I have time to respond to your e-mail today. Pack your child's lunch every day. Send notes to all of his teachers. Any slips at school, address it with the teachers immediately with a note and face to face. You may consider having your child where a pin (the type that you would wear to a convention) or a sticker on your child's shirt that says " I am on a special diet. Do not feed me. " I did that for a couple of years and it worked very well. My son did not pull on the pin and it was designed so that safety was not an issue with the school. We have had very few slips at school over the last 6 years. I know of some parents that make a small presentation to the class so they will know why they cannot share their lunches with these special children. Good luck. Guest guest
Don't forget...you can just sign up to read messages on the site instead of getting the emails. That way, you can just read what captures your attention, when YOU are able to find the time to log on.
