Deary Colleagues,

Here is an announcement about the availability of a fellowship for MDs who are interested in policy and advocacy for the populaion served. They have contacted me directly to request our support of this progam, which I appreciate greatly, and NCFH will be glad to consider working with an interested physician as the sponsoring advocacy agency if the topic is appropriate.

Of special interest to NCFH are the advocacy topics of: 1. Access to Medicaid for eligible farmworkers, 2. Advancing the Migrant Health Agenda, 3. Data mining and analysis to validate the needs of the Farmworker Population. If you have physicians on your staff who are interested in these topics and can spare the time to devote to a fellowship project, please be sure to let us know.

I am sure that each of you are members of other advocacy agencies which could also sponsor a fellow. Please note that there is a list of prior years' agency sponsors and projects attached to the web site.

Please look this over and pass it along to anyone that you think might find it to be of interest. Please note that the deadline is October 7th, so planning must take place immediately.

Thank you, Bobbi Ryder

Dear Ms. Ryder,

I’m writing to alert you to a funding opportunity for physicians that may be of interest to National Center for Farmworker Health members. The Physician Advocacy Fellowship provides support to doctors who want to develop their policy and advocacy skills by partnering with an advocacy organization on project that they design jointly

Fellows will:

• Design and implement an advocacy project to improve health and service delivery;

• Address social issues such as racism, violence, healthcare access, and environmental hazards which adversely affect health and health care delivery;

• Develop or strengthen their advocacy skills through collaboration with a partner advocacy organization.

The Fellowship supports 50% of a fellow’s time for 12 to 24 months, and is open to physicians nationwide.

Additional information, including a list of past fellows, and application information, is available on our website at http://www.cmap.columbia.edu/research_fellowship.shtml. I’ve also attached the complete funding guidelines to this email. Note the deadline for short proposals is October 7th!

Would you consider distributing this to your members? I welcome any other ideas you may have about how to get the word out.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

Best,

DeFeo
