Guest guest
Four out of five members of my family are GFCF and we are seeing a world of difference. Thought I'd share my 3.5 yo son's recent infringements with you all. Last Saturday he ate half a hamburger bun at Mc's (caregiver wasn't paying attention). For 36 hours he bit, hit and roared. For 48 or so hours he had a bright red allergy ring. And his bm's still have not settled down. The last major infraction he had (in February) occured on a Thursday. In a rash moment I ordered pizza for dinner (*This makes no sense, it's all in my imagination*) On the Thursday, he had been figuring out words containing the *sh* sound with his siters (we homeschool). By Friday night, he had stopped talking and spent a few days hitting, biting, standing on his head. I went GFCF along with my children, and it has made a huge difference to my health. I had a long list of mysterious, *unrelated* complaints since my youngest was born which have almost completely been resolved. I am now being tested for suspect celiac sprue, although my gastroenterologist has suggested that if it is not celiac we may have another unrecognized hereditary metabolic issue. I could write a book here on all the changes, but I won't bore you all. Is there any other adults out there who are doing this diet along with their children and seeing significant improvements? Guest guest
Hi , My wife and I have been on the diet, along with my son, for about a year and a half now. My wife and son react the strongest to casen and gluten, I'm not as bad. We decided it would be easier to not have any dairy or gluten in the house, so we all went on the diet. My wife had similar symptoms as you did, and improved on the diet. We also eliminated corn and soy as their symptoms became evident once the casen and gluten were removed. Corn is almost identical to casen from a molecular standpoint and therefore is also difficult to breakdown for these kids. Although my wife's health improved once the diet was started, she still didn't feel " Healthy " . She later found out that she had had Lyme disease for about 15-20 years, since her teens. She has been on antibiotics for about two months and is finally starting to feel a little better. The process of taking back your health is a gradual one with many ups and downs along the way. We have since come to believe that Lyme can be passed inutero and have found that, through testing, our son has Lyme. He has been on antibiotics for about six weeks and is showing signs of improvement. If you would like to talk to my wife more about her experiences, you can contact her at STARSURFER@... She is more the expert on GFCF diet/Lyme than I am. Good Luck, Bill > Four out of five members of my family are GFCF and we are seeing a > world of difference. Guest guest
We recently had an experience that convinced us this diet is necessary for our son. In the course of one day, he was accidentally given regular margarine and also snuck a crust of regular bread. Let me back track and say that before this diet, he was waking up, on average, four nights a week at around 1 or 2 a.m. When he woke up, he would be laughing hysterically, squealing and getting increasingly excited. He would be awake for three hours, usually, and nothing would get him back to sleep before that. We would take turns going in to lay with him, to make sure he stayed in bed and didn't spend his time leaping off the top of the furniture. Since the diet started, he sleeps through the night practially without fail. On the few occasions that he has awakened, my husband and I were astounded that he would make a few quiet noises and then go back to sleep by himself! Now, to the night after the infractions: that night, and for three nights following, he was again awake at 1 or 2 a.m., got increasingly loud and excited, needed one of us in the room with him, and was awake for three hours. This was two weeks ago, and since the third night after the infraction, he has again been sleeping through the night. I have to admit we have been disappointed that this diet has not brought a miraculous change in our son's communication or chronic diarrhea. However, the mere fact that his sleeping is better is enough to keep us plugging along! Just wanted to share, > >.......For 36 hours he bit, hit and roared. > > For 48 or so hours he had a bright red > > allergy ring. Guest guest
Just wanted to chime in regarding the benefits of GFCF for the whole family. We had the whole house go GFCF since we figured it would be easier on us if all the food in the house was " safe " for our son. I was also pregnant at the time and decided it would be best to be cautious and to be GFCF for the rest of my pregnancy and while I was breastfeeding. Well, my husband had a history of stomach problems that they couldn't figure out. We even had two emergency room trips for these incidents. Well, since he was not eating G and C at home he was able to recognize what things set him off - and guess what, he was severly lactose intolerant. I have suffered from allergies all my life and use an inhaler as needed for asthma. Well, since I quite dairy, I haven't needed the inhaler. So.... I think lots of people have problems with food that they are not even aware of. Also the more I read about cows milk the less I think anyone should use it. It is meant for baby cows - last time I check, I was an adult human... SO, now I am a health freak - sort of - I still have burgers and fries, but I have completely dropped pizza from my life. Anyway - I feel better for it and I lost the baby weight a lot easier than the first time around, of course that could also be stress.
