Guest guest
Emla only numbs the skin? Then why does it constrict the blood vessels?? ...at least that's what I heard...I want to use this for my son who's VERY hard to draw from because of heart issues, but I was told that it can make it harder....comments?? __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I thought it was emlan? Anyway, we always use it for my boy and I've tried it on myelf. It does take the " pointiness " out of the needle, but there is still a sensation which Ian describes as " hard pressure " . We haven't had a problem with the blood draw itself. I do bribe, however. I used to hold a picture of a toy he wanted in fron of his eyes. Now it's a $20 bill. Sigh... > Emla only numbs the skin? > Then why does it constrict the blood vessels?? ...at > least that's what I heard...I want to use this for my > son who's VERY hard to draw from because of heart > issues, but I was told that it can make it > harder....comments?? >
Guest guest
I don't know anything about it constricting the blood vessels, but I can tell you that my son was so hard to get blood out of (without the emla) that there was virtually only ONE nurse in the entire town we lived in that could get blood from him. Even at the children's hosp. in St. , no one could get him (and they are supposedly experts with kids). The Dr. even tried to get an artery and after 8 tries gave up. After I found out about EMLA the Dr. gave me a prescription (knowing how hard it was to get his blood) and the one nurse who could get him, still never had any problems. I still have some EMLA left --I'll put some on me right now and test just how effective it is once you reach the vein -- I'll let you know. The reason I believe it only numbs the skin is because once they started moving the needle in my son's vein he'd scream, but prior to that he was oblivious (also, I did test it myself and I know it works topically, but I never thought to try poking myself down to the vein). emla cream > Emla only numbs the skin? > Then why does it constrict the blood vessels?? ...at > least that's what I heard...I want to use this for my > son who's VERY hard to draw from because of heart > issues, but I was told that it can make it > harder....comments?? > > > __________________________________________________ >
