Guest guest
Hi Alison, Well, mine is a WLS/PCOS/pregnancy success story - or miracle in my eyes anyway. Dave and I have been married almost 7 yrs now. About four yrs ago, I did the fertility specialist/clomid thing with absolutely no success and alot of heartache. I was on the max dose of clomid for double the usual days per month (10 instead of 5) and still could not get eggs large enough to release. At the time, I gave up on the whole process as there were a number of factors in play at the same time - the loss of my mother in law, lifethreatening illness in my own father as well as significant health issues in myself that led to prolonged hospitalizations ( I was suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome related to some incidents of child/adolescent abuse in my own past)...The post traumatic stress literally almost meant the end of my own life on more than one occasion, all at the age of 30... Through it all, my Bear (Dave) and I stuck together - through thick and thin...okay, we were both pretty thick, as our weights were well into the obese/morbidly obese range up until a yr and half ago. I had my weight loss surgery May 6/03. My surgeon was the " pioneer " of weight loss surgery in Canada and has done the most in our country, as well as having practiced in the US. His surgery, the VBG, I know is not the most current trend, but I elected to have it as this man is amazing and I trusted him with my life....And I will never regret it. The surgery, a tool that helped me realize my ability to get past food as a source of comfort, has been a god send in so many ways. In nine months, I lost over 104 lb and gained back some of my long missing self esteem and self worth....feeling better about who I am than I have in a long long time. A nice side effect of the surgery was that I had my first period WITHOUT PROGESTERONE in 2 yrs - 2 weeks to the day after surgery. Dr H warned me about becoming " superfertile " and was very firm about us using birth control for 9-12 mos post op - he had had a pt get preg about 2-3 mos post op and it was a tricky preg. We laughed about how ironic it was that here we were, both in our 30's in established careers, stable marriage and infertile having to use condoms...I tell you, when Feb of this yr came around and the 9 mos anniversary of my surgery came, I almost had a condom burning party...lol.. Here's the cool part - I had had periods post op every month, but still, ovulation dates were not an easy thing to predict, as my cycle varied from 20-40 days in length...I had started informally using the Fertility Awareness Method in January ( an excellent resource, by the way)...Well, we had figured it would take us 6 mos to a yr of " practice " til we got pregnant or saw a fertility doc again....Well, on either Feb 17/19 or 21st (my 35th bd!), we conceived our baby...on our own...on the first try!!!! We were both stunned for a long time, and it is only now becoming more real to me as I see my belly expanding and hear my baby every day on the doppler I rented....We couldn't be more excited or feel happier. It is almost a reward for some pretty bad times.... Another great thing about our lives now - Dave had his WLS on April 21st. He had an RNY and has lost a total of close to 75 lb. We will bring our baby into a life of healthy parents who are happy and who have the potential to live strong and productively, hopefully a long long time. I am so very proud of my Bear...and of the life we have built together.... Part of me though is still waiting for the other shoe to drop - Can life actually be this good and stay this good? So, Alison, I apologize for this long winded post, but wanted you to see that it IS POSSIBLE...If it happened to me, it can happen to anyone... I wish you all the best in your quest - and congratulations on your amazing weight loss too...Please keep in touch! Hugs, Z EDC Nov 10/04 - 21 weeks!!! > Hello all, I need a little information and I am hoping that you all will be able to help me out. I had wls because of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). I was wondering if anyone else out there has had PCOS, had WLS and had any problems getting pregnant after the surgery. Thanks! > >
