Guest guest
Those of you who have G-J tubes with the stoma into the stomach, can you tell me if those can be placed with an endoscope? Or do they typically require another incision in addition to forming the stoma? In other words, is this always major surgery with large incision or can it be done with the less traumatic punch-through method? Tks. Guest guest
Depending on body mass/composition it can be done one of three ways: open surgery, endoscopically or with a laparoscopic assist. My G/J is with the stoma into the stomach and initially it was to be done endoscopically, but when I went to the suite they ran into some complications so I had to go open. I'm also fairly large body mass. Guest guest
Barbara, Branden had a g/j for about a year or so. He already had an existing stoma from his g-tube so they just threaded it into the g tube stoma and into the jejunum. They did it in radiology every time it had to be replaced. He was really little--- just over 2 when he first got it and he was awake every time it was replaced. Let me know if you have any other questions.
