Guest guest
Hi! My son has clubfoot. He had 2 operations by Ponseti method. Now he has to wear Denis Brown shows. He is fine during daytime. But he can not sleep in these shoes. He crys all the time. Doctor said it was very important to have shoes on. Can anybody recommend what to do in this situation? Thanks! Guest guest
Welcome Olga! What surgery did your son have? The only one involved in the Ponseti Method is the cutting of the Achilles tendon. Did your son have this procedure done twice? It can take several days to get use to them especially at night because they may have to learn a new position to sleep or figure out how to get comfortable. The bar should be the length of his shoulders. If it is not that could cause some discomfort. Also, check to see if his feet are rotated 70 degrees and the shoes are set there. It may just take some time to get use to. Make sure you get them very tight, so he doesn't escape! Good luck! Denis Browne shoes Hi! My son has clubfoot. He had 2 operations by Ponseti method. Guest guest
Hi Kori and ! Thanks you for your replies. I am happy to be a member of the list. I see that people here have big experience and know a lot about clubfoot. We already have a long story but I do not know about Ponseti method much. I am from Kotka, Finland. I have 2 babies-twins. They are 1 year old. Son Aleksi has bilateral clubfoot. He had soft cast from 3 days old for 6 months. But it did not work and Aleksi had sores all that time. When he was 10 months we went to University hospital in Helsinki and Aleksi had his Achilles tendon operated. Then 2 months he had cast. Then he had again Achilles tendon operated. Then he had cast for 3 weeks and now we have DBB for 3 weeks. 1st week he did not wear them because they were not good and Aleksi was sick. Now he is OK during day time. But at night at best he can sleep for 3 hours then he began to scream and he can not stop until I take shoes off. I am desperate. He must have shoes for 23 hours and he has ones 12-17 hours. I can see his feet are turning inside again. There is only one doctor in Finland who knows this method and she on vacation. Kori! After reading your recommendations I realized that Aleksi's heels were not in right place. The shoes are attached to the bar. I managed to put 1st heel into the back of the shoe but the other one I still can not put. I will keep trying. I do not understand what has to be the length of his shoulders. It is bar or distance between the heels of the shoes? Also how to determine 70 degrees? What sleeping positions are good when baby has DBB? If you can help us I will appreciate it VERY much. Aleksi already had so much and we do not want him more operations. Please help! Thanks a lot, Olga – mama of and Aleksi. > >Reply-To: nosurgery4clubfoot >To: nosurgery4clubfoot > >Subject: Re: Denis Browne shoes >Date: Fri, 6 May 2005 19:24:46 -0600 > >Welcome Olga!
