Guest guest
Hello Just wanted to share my experience with you from today.... With all of the ENCOURAGEMENT from all of you on this support group.... we decided to start casting all over again. We had our appointment scheduled for a couple of weeks ago to talk to the doctor about surgery because we did the casting and started with the shoes and she did great with them full time then we got dropped to 12 hours from 23 hours and after 3 nights of that she would scream a bloody murder scream and we tried to let her but eventually would give in after a couple of hours then we would try again and we just didn't think we could do the shoes .... especially like that for 3-4 years...WELL.... after putting my story on here for support I got ALOT of responses (very loud and clear) on why to do the casting over again and NOT do surgery.... you all were pretty brutal with your responses but look.... it got through to me!!!! Thank you to all of you for that!!!! I knew surgery wasn't the right decision but we thought it was our only decision.... so here we are ... starting all over again and Avery is 10 months old.... She did OK getting the cast on today... she isn't crawling yet so I am sure this will delay her even more but that is fine.... when we got home she was rolling all over and didn't seem to mind having that cast on after all!!! She has a twin sister who is crawling and as they get older it is going to get more difficult that she isn't crawling or walking when Delaney is ... I guess that is just part of having something different, right?? So I just want to thank all of you for all of your support and encouragement on starting all over.... you will probably here alot from me now....!!! Thank you especially to Daiga!!! You have been so very kind and I really appreciate that... I haven't had a chance to get on and email since we spoke!!! Thank you for finding my name and emailing me and introducing me to this group... I would of never found it otherwise and we would more than likely be doing surgery.... so give yourself a big pat on the back for saving another child from surgery It has been a big relief and I can't imagine where Avery's life would be if it weren't for this group!!! I will keep you posted on what all is going on.... , proud mommy of ... Chesney 8.7.00 Delaney 6.24.04 Avery 6.24.04 (LCF)
Guest guest
. I am so glad you decided to re-cast and start over. I know it seems hard right now, but before you know it, the harder part will be over. Avery Lynn will definitely thank you someday. Here's hoping for a smoother second round! Please remember, you are not the first one to start all over at her age. All of us can give you support to help you get through the tough times (if you have any). Good luck and keep us updated. Guest guest
, It's good to hear that Avery is tolerating the casting well for the second time around. I just wanted to offer you some reassurance....don't count on the cast (or the FAB) slowing her down in reaching her milestones. Once she figures it out, you won't be able to stop her. Also, keep in mind that twins or not, every baby is different and develops at her own pace. A week from now, Avery will have forgotten what it was like NOT to be wearing a cast and she will adapt very quickly, you'll see! On a side note, did your doctor give you any indication of how many casts may be needed to regain the correction? It'll probably be easier to tell once this first cast is removed to see how well the foot responds. Keep us posted!
