Guest guest
Hey, by the way. is wearing a size 8 markell's on her brace now. American Prosthetics does not carry anything larger for that brace and said that we would have to special order anything larger. So, we took the 8M. For the first time ever, woke up this morning with 2 nice size blisters on her big toe and foot. We had always been fortunate before and never had any problems with blisters. Anyone have any advice on what to do about them so her shoes won't bother her tonight? What is the best way to heal them altogether? Thanks, Holly and
Guest guest
Holly, Try some lanolin cream, like Lanisoh that is mostly used for nipple problems of breast feeding mothers. It works wonders on the blisters. It does soften the feet up a bit, but it also heals the blister without it popping open and creating a big hole that has to heal over. I know more people will be popping on with suggestions, and I can't wait to hear them. (I am whispering this cause it makes me an awful mommy, we have had a blister or two on little feetsies). Good luck. One more thing..... Hey, by the way. is wearing a size 8 markell's on her brace now. Guest guest
Lanisoh is the best! We used witch hazel to dry out the skin, then put liquid bandaid over the blisters/sores to help them stay protected. Seems to work better than bandaids because it doesn't fold or crease, which can cause pressure. > Holly, > Try some lanolin cream, like Lanisoh that is mostly used for nipple problems of breast feeding mothers. Guest guest
, Do you know if Lanisoh can help a mild case of thrush? Or does anyone have over the counter recommendations for when baby transfers thrush to you from breastfeeding? I know there was some discussion here a few months ago about this but I can't remember what the suggestions were. Sammy's Pediatrician said he has thrush but it is so mild he doesn't even want to treat it. Unfortunately he has passed it on to me -- it's very mild in my case too, but just irritating and causing tenderness, especially when Sammy tries out his new teeth! : ) Any suggestions would be appreciated. Guest guest
- do any of the hospitals near you have a lactation department? Our lactation consultants have lots of good recommendations for treating thrush. Unfortunately the only one I can think of is lactobacillus. That's the active bacteria in yogurt, and it counteracts yeast. You can also get it in capsule form- it comes in many different varieties but our LCs recommend the kind that you have to refridgerate- that kind has *active* cultures in it. Sorry I can't think of anything else at the moment... Kassia 3/22/01 (Lt ATTT surgery April 2004) and 11/22/
Guest guest
Grapfruit Seed Extract (GSE). Use a plastic container (margarine size) and fill with water. Put about 6 drops of GSE into it, mix. Then dip your nip (lol) into it a few times a day. Swab babe's mouth with it too. Works great! (well, if you do it like you're supposed to for a few days... which I am guilty of not doing so mine keeps coming back but a few dips gets it gone with a quickness... just gotta keep it gone). Use the GSE on his bottom too if he's got a yeasty rash (red dots). Use it at each diaper change for a few days, just dab some on. Same mixture as described above. Why on earth would a doc not want to treat yeast (in any form) is beyond me. It doesn't get better by itself... usually gets worse. You can get the GSE at any health food store. It comes in a white bottle with red letters (GSE) on the front. Enough there for a lifetime of thrush. Guest guest
Good luck ! I've never had thrush myself but I've heard from many other moms through my work (I'm an RN in labor & delivery) about how awful it can be. Hopefully you'll get it cleared up soon!!
