Guest guest
, so sorry you 2 are having a hard time. We went through the same but w/ we had horrible nights and we did not know what was wrong. We would wake up every couple of hours with her screaming as if someone had hit her and we thought it was the shoes but on one occasion she was crying and took her daddys finger and began rubbing it on her cheek, so we took a look and saw her molars breaking through. Unfortunetly she had all 4 come through at the same time thats why she was feeling so horrible. To top that all off she got a viral infection and her ped looked at her molars and agreed that she had all 4 coming in and that also caused her loss of appetite. He told me not to worry to much just to make sure she got plenty of fluids so she would not dehydrate. So if she does not want to eat i would not force her. they will eat when they get hungry. lasted that way for about 1-2 weeks. The tablets did'nt work on her either so I would give her Motrin before bed and use both the baby Oragel and the adult oragel. I think it said not to give under 2 but it helped her a lot more than the baby one. She loved eating cold things like ice cream and yogurt b/c i guess the coolness seemed to soothe her gums. My dh would also massage her cheek where the molar was coming out when she would wake at night and that was enough to put her back to sleep. I know its hard to see them not eat especially samantha that she is thin to begin with but it gets better. We had some awful sleepless nights let me tell you!! I would also cuddle with her and tell her " I know it hurts, I know it's your teeth but momma is here for you " and that seemed to soothe her too. Some how I think she understood that I knew what was wrong. So give her plenty of love and cuddles and hang in there, at least you know WHATS wrong. We were taking her shoes off 2-3 times a night thinking it was the shoes! Hope this helps! and BL CF 12/16/03 > my daughter, Grace, is 17 months old and i think she is getting a > moler in... she hasn't really been eating anything for about a week... > if it weren't for her eating at daycare i would be extremely > worried... but she doesn't eat at night or on the weekend... anyways.. > i was pulling her away from a " no no " spot and she started crying like > i had killed her and she laid back on the floor and i saw in her mouth > and this HUGE tooth looks like it's coming close to poking through... > and it's a moler... how long does it take for them to come in and what > is the best way to sooth her so that she can eat? i have been trying > the teething tablets and they don't seem to make a difference... last > night i gave her motrin and 15 minutes later she came over to me, > waved bye bye and laid down... so i put her in bed... was sort of sad > really but funny too... don't think i am horrible.. is she just the > drama queen or do other kids have this much trouble with the molers... > her other teeth weren't that big of a deal... just a lot of > drooling... thanks > > mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 16/
Guest guest
, Jonah is cutting the last of his 2-year molars, so I know what you're going through. He hasn't been wanting to eat much and he has been Mr Cranky Pants--it's hard, he's usually a very easy-going guy. He's gnawing on everything: loves my keys because they are cold (so I keep washing them for him). With the OK from his pediatrician, we have been giving him the chewable children's Tylenol. It's actually less concentrated than the infant stuff and we're giving him the " meltaways " that are absorbed really quickly. Good luck! Maybe after she gets these teeth out, she'll concentrate on learning to walk! Guest guest
i am so glad that i am not alone... every time we are in the car and stop at a red light or whatever... i pat her on the leg in her car seat and talk to her... she has been giving me the " leave me alone or i will bite you " look and pushing my hands away... doesn't even want you to look at her... and she's never done that... so she's either teething or or having some serious anger issues!!! lol... poor things... i hope this is over soon... mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 16/7 Naomi powellbugs@...> wrote: , Jonah is cutting the last of his 2-year molars, so I know what you're going through. Guest guest
Another suggestion, you might try putting the orajel (or anbesol) on with your finger instead of a swab, especially if she goes and hides when she sees you coming with the swabs. : ) --- Caroland lcaroland@...> wrote: > michelle... > i am so unfit... she wouldn't eat again last > night... but she was hungry... she kept trying to > put the potatoe in her mouth and would bite but then > would spit it out... and was upset about it... and > she was running fever off and on and having hot and > cold flashes... she would climb on the table and try > to reach the ceiling fan cord (but was about 4 feet > from reaching it) and so i would turn it on... then > she would get temp and would do the same to turn it > off... back and forth... so i was changing her > diaper and she was " talking " to me and i looked in > her mouth and ran my finger in there and she has 3 > all poked through and the 4th is swollen and about > to come in... i felt even more horrible than i > already did!!! so i made her lay there and put the > oragel in there... and she was all upset (i use the > swabs) and she hit my hand and the stuff dripped in > her eye... so i know that hurt and she was soooo > upset at that point... so i then held her down to > put visine drops in her eyes to flush > the oragel out... so it was horrible drama and she > was so upset and i was crying and apologizing and > felt completely inadaquate!! so she was trying to > get away at that point and wasn't interested at all > in cuddle.. so that was our glorious evening... it > was like some stupid comedy act... that's my life!!! > by the way.. her eye is fine this morning as far as > i can tell... leave it to me to muck up even giving > her meds!!! lol... > > mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 16/7 > > > > > love, lisa > before i made you in the womb, i knew you... love > God. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > --------------------------------- > Do you Yahoo!? > Yahoo! Guest guest
, Kolby is almost 18 mos and he has just begun to get his molars as well. 1 day I flipped him upside down while playing and when his mouth flew open, I saw this huge tooth that had barely broken through the gums. Right about that same time is when he started biting.... He now as 2 on each side (upper and lower)and it seems as though they will never break through completely. They maybe started about 6-8 weeks ago. Like Grace, he will not eat anything. He will only (maybe) eat things not so healthy like pudding, yogurt, cereal, etc. I've given up on trying to get him to eat at mealtime....It's hard not to worry when they are not eating right but then again, it's impossible to make them eat........it has to be the teeth....Those molars have 4 corner to break through instead of 1 straight edge. He is even waking me up 1-2 times per night and that is very unlike him. I really do hope that one passes soon. I don't remember my 4 year old having so much trouble with his teeth but maybe I've just blocked it from my memory. Hang in there. It's just a rough phase. I'm not sure how much Tylenol, Motrin and Oragel actually help, but we go through a ton of it. mom of kolby 11-19-03 bcf dobb's brace 14/7 > my daughter, Grace, is 17 months old and i think she is getting a > moler in... she hasn't really been eating anything for about a week... > if it weren't for her eating at daycare i would be extremely > worried... but she doesn't eat at night or on the weekend... anyways.. > i was pulling her away from a " no no " spot and she started crying like > i had killed her and she laid back on the floor and i saw in her mouth > and this HUGE tooth looks like it's coming close to poking through... > and it's a moler... how long does it take for them to come in and what > is the best way to sooth her so that she can eat? i have been trying > the teething tablets and they don't seem to make a difference... last > night i gave her motrin and 15 minutes later she came over to me, > waved bye bye and laid down... so i put her in bed... was sort of sad > really but funny too... don't think i am horrible.. is she just the > drama queen or do other kids have this much trouble with the molers... > her other teeth weren't that big of a deal... just a lot of > drooling... thanks > > mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 16/
Guest guest
tracy... i have just started her on the tylenol and motrin the last 2 days because i didn't know about the teeth... but that is a very good point about the four corners having to break through... i didn't think about that... and only one corner on each of her 3 have come out.. so that's a little depressing.. lol... but i bought her a new toy today.. hoping that will distract her a little.. she was getting really borded with her other toys since she hasn't really had anything new since christmas.. but i told her daycaregiver to give her tylenol evey 4 hours to try to reduce the stress and pain.. we'll see if she's still in the " i hate this world " mood when i pick her up... as miserable as she is, it's still kind of funny... watching her sit in her carseat and look straight ahead with her brow furrowed and just nawing on her passie.. even when she's mad i think she's cute.. only a mom.. lol... but thank you for sharing... and letting me know i am not alone... i have told her that she's not alone several times and she looks like she could hit me if she was brave enough... so i don't think i'll keep telling her that... lol... mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 16/7 russplus0075@...> wrote: , Kolby is almost 18 mos and he has just begun to get his molars as well. 1 day I flipped him upside down while playing and when his mouth flew open, I saw this huge tooth that had barely broken through the gums. Guest guest
My daycare, which is fully licensed, does not require a doctor's note for things like Tylenol or Orajel. We haven't needed to send Aleksander over with anything yet, but all we have to do is send what we want him to take with him, and they'll give it to him as we instruct. That said, my daycare is probably not the norm either. They are very into organic foods for the children, don't use things like wipes (they use wet paper towels instead - and Aleksander hasn't had diaper rash yet!), and even recommend Echinacea oil to put in the humidifier when he starts to catch a cold. Even though Aleksander was born prematurely, and at the start of the cold/flu season, he hasn't had a cold yet! It doesn't seem normal to me that they wouldn't give your baby what you tell them to give though? Is it a center? I guess they sometimes have different rules than home daycares. > I'm not sure about gas drops. Guest guest
, Do you go to a state licensed facility? If so, they should be able to give you a form to complete authorizing them to give any meds required. They may just be " afraid " of liability issues but I know (at least in Missouri) that they can give OTC meds as long as it is in the original container and the parent completes the proper paperwork. I would say they should be more worried about NOT giving a kid medicine if they need it -- who wants their child to be in pain when they could be given a little Tylenol? If it were me, I would take it up with the center director. Guest guest
, Sorry I'm just now reading posts from last week. I think if you trust your caregiver, that's all that matters. The note would only cover her anyway I would think. Sometimes I think things would be easier if we had Kolby somewhere like that but unfortunately we don't know of anyone personally that does that. mom of Kolby 11/19/03 bcf Dobbs brace 14/7 > I'm not sure about gas drops. Guest guest
, I did ask last Friday about the Tylenol again and was told that if Kolby's pediatrician would need to write a note indicating dosage and reason, I could fill out a med form for the tylenol in his room. There is a way, just alot of steps. I think the reason they need the note from a doctor is to make sure they are not being tricked into giving tylenol to help suppress fevers. mom of Kolby 11-19-03 bcf Dobbs brace 14/7 > > > Oh yeah, I forgot about the nawing on the passie....That's a sure > > > sign that they're miserable. Guest guest
, Well that's pretty bad if you ask me if they are worried about the parents trying to " trick " them into letting their feverish child stay in daycare. Doesn't seem to say a lot for the trust between the center and the parents. Although it is not uncommon for infants who are teething to run a bit of a fever, do they make you keep them home if this is the case? > > > > Oh yeah, I forgot about the nawing on the passie....That's a > sure > > > > sign that they're miserable. Guest guest
They're pretty picky about fevers. I think if it goes beyond 100, they have to go home. Would it go above that with teething? But in their defense about the parents tricking them, you wouldn't believe how many parents take their children to schools with a fever and just hope they can work a while before they have to come back and get them. Meanwhile, all children are exposed. That is what makes me the maddest. If I know my children are sick, they do not go to daycare......Those parents spoil it for all. We've been pretty lucky with Kolby not being sick so I haven't had to deal with the rules and regulations very much. Other than their 500 pages of rules, we love our daycare and wouldn't put them anywhere else. They've been really patient and cooperative with Kolby's situation, casts, brace, etc... mom of Kolby 11-19-03 bcf Dobbs brace 14/7 > > > > > Oh yeah, I forgot about the nawing on the passie....That's a > > sure > > > > > sign that they're miserable. Guest guest
I don't think temps usually go over 100 with teething. Sounds like you have found a good place, they are just a little anal about the giving medicine thing (lol)...luckily Kolby hasn't needed it much! allison russplus0075@...> wrote: They're pretty picky about fevers.
