hey.. just thought about something... i am assuming that after kids

get potty trained they do have to go to the bathroom during the

night... since grace is my first i am not sure about that... i know

that i some times have to go during the night though... anyways... if

they are in the FAB all night, how does that work out? do they have

more accidents? do they just crawl there? do kids even go to the

bathroom by themselves at night to begin with? or do they get the

parents up to help every night... i need to be prepared ahead of time

for that if that's the case.. lol... sorry for the stupid questions

but it just occured to me when kori talked about the " sleep walking " ..

thanks...

did I type Sleep walking? Doh! I mean night waking...

But as far as potty training, I would assume that if they have to go they

just crawl. My boys used to go in the middle of the night, but not so much

anymore. The best thing to do with potty training is to have them go about

a half an hour before bed, and then again right before they crawl into

bed. So hopefully you minimize needing to go in the middle of the night

altogether. Also, limit liquids after 5pm, especially milk if you've got a

child who wets at night. My kids were/aren't big night wetters. They all

have woke dry very early on, like before the age of 1 and do all their

peeing in the am after they wake. But that's not the norm, so getting as

much pee out before they go to sleep with most kids will help with nights.

I know a mom (my cousin) who has issues with her kids night wetting. In

fact, her 5.5yo (girl) still does it. She has her in pull up's at night,

which I think is stupid. I would have put the child into cloth at night 3

years ago. But she often forgets to have them go potty right before they

go to bed. Well duh! She spent over a year with her oldest (boy) at the

age of 5 waking him twice a night to go pee... which eventually

worked. But hated that experience so much that she's not doing it with her

girl and doing pull up's instead. OK, whatever...

When Darbi wakes at night and I don't get to her right away she'll get out

of bed, clunk across the floor and open the door herself. I assume that if

she wanted to, she could get to the bathroom to pee that way too. We shall

see. Darbi is resisting potty learning unless I let her go nakie which

sometimes means a puddle on the floor (hardwoods, so that's ok!). But

because I have used disposables on her... I know, I'm lame... she's happy

to pee in her diaper still. I hope to find out how it works for us

soon... more puddles to come around here... but it's getting there. When

she's nakie (a dress works well for this) she does find her way to the

potty. I just gotta put more effort into it and probably put her into

cloth from now on too. Once I switched back to cloth with her brother he

was trained in about 2w.

, it's not a dumb question! it comes up from time to time..

As one of the moms of an older child, here's our answer:

For whatever reason, my daughter doesn't typically wake in the night to

go. I just make sure she goes right before bed. On the few times she

has had to go in the night, I think she has called for me. (I have a

feeling though that she might do that whether she was wearing the brace

or not.)

Maybe she's unusual, but she sleeps through without needing to get up.

That was true for my other, non-cf kids too. I used a Pull-up at might

for a while for insurance after she was first potty trained, but soon

found it always dry, so I stopped very soon. I can only remember one or

two accidents since, over a couple of years!.. (my other kids had many

more than that!)

Anyway, I think you'll find it's yet another of those worries and

issues that is easier to deal with than you think, just like many

things about the brace.

One thing I have done differently.. I've continued to use bed rails on

the sides of her bed (twin size) past when I normally would have,

because of not wanting her to fall off wearing the brace. (I covered

them with fabric that match the rest of her bedding, so it looks

better.. and she likes it, she says, because it makes her bed 'cozy'.)

But she can, of course, get in and out of bed easily around them.

Hope this helps,

and Claire

,

Not a silly question at all! Since is now going for the world

record in wearing the brace, potty was a concern of mine I remember a

while back.

What we do is make sure that she goes to the bathroom every single

night right before she gets into bed. For awhile there I was getting

up in the middle of the night carrying her back and forth, because

when she was a bit younger, she would have accidents because she

couldn't or didn't want to crawl to the bathroom by herself. Once we

started making sure she went right before bed every night, we had no

more problems and she hardly ever wakes up and has to go during the

night. It's probably an age related thing too but she's been potty

trained since she turned 2. I stop giving her a lot to drink late at

night too. She usually drinks milk with her dinner and a glass around

7:00 and then bed at 8:30/9:00. I am able to give her water beside

her bed for the middle of the night without problems, but she usually

only takes a sip or two before she goes to sleep.

Kori,

Just curious what you use to clean your hardwoods if you do get a

puddle? My husband freaks out because Jenna still doesn't " make it in

time " about once a month. He thinks that the pee get into the cracks

between the boards and causes bacteria which then transfers to our

feet which we then track around the house, even though I clean the

floors with Lysol. He is kind of a germ-o-phobe if you couldn't tell.

I don't remember my girls getting up at all in the night. I used to lift

them for a while before I went to bed. My son just walks around with his bar

on and never crawls, but I am worried about the top of the stairs. Funny, I

can't remember how I potty trained my girls but Amber who is now 14 was

trained at 18 months and Chelsea (13) was about 22 months but my son who is

now 25 months I have no clue how to start :) Maybe he is just not ready???
