Guest guest
For sure now. They're going to get Darbi her P/M FAB!!! She is officially their first test case with it. Not that her being 2 and nicely corrected with big feet will tell them a whole heck of a lot about how little babes will do with it... but at least they're going to see it and all it's wonders. The orthotist I talked to sounded pretty jacked about seeing the process and wanted to be there when she's fitted for it. They want to do it themselves, so they're going to either send the impressions I have already done or do another set and send it to themselves. That way they just take care of it. So, we have an appointment next Tuesday to see our regular orthotist and this other one who researched it and talked to Dr. Sussman about it for approval. I feel pretty stupid for sitting here so many weeks not doing anything about Dr. Sussman telling me they couldn't do it... Goes to show that a little bit of effort, and more effort if the first try doesn't prove fruitful sure does the trick. I would have pushed for a sooner appointment but since they were being so great about it, and that other orthotist wanted to be there I let them schedule us a week out since that's when they both had a time slot. I figure, the easier I am to deal with, the better they will receive doing this for the first time. In the interim, Darbi's bar is too short and they don't have any bigger bars there to give her. She's been doing some night waking saying *ow* and acting like she's got leg cramps (I have to take it off, massage her legs and she goes back to sleep, I then put it back on when I crawl into bed with her) so I am pretty certain the bar being about a half inch on both sides too short is the culprit. Their fix for it is going to be cutting her bar in half and riveting a piece of metal to it to make it longer. Which I am not too keen on. So I'm going to drop off her adjustable bar at a friend's shop to see if he can weld it instead. Problem is, he says if it's cast aluminum he can't weld it... so we'll see. She has to wear what she's got probably for another month or so while her new shoes get made. And it may take longer because she's going to be the biggest feet has made shoes for so far so he has to make a whole new insole mold in the bigger size. At any rate, this is great news for Portland CF babies and I am hoping it finally pushes them to start using the FAB again here. I can only hope.
