GI bacteria problems with my son

My name is Donna and I have 4 1/2 year old boy/girl twins. My son is dx

autistic and my daughter is dx asperger's. We've had Triston (son) on the

GFCF diet for 10 months and he seems to have improved greatly. Started

talking for the first time ever and continues to make great progress. My

daughter just started the diet and is improving somewhat but can't really say

to what degree. We've just had some testing done on my son through GP Labs

and had a pretty good amount of abnormal results. Our DAN doctor is only a

psychiatrist and this is out of his league. He's the one that helped me order

the tests and decide which ones to do. I'm wondering if anyone has had

similar results or experience with the same problems.

1. Elevated hippuric- a marker for dysbiosis (abnormal microbial overgrowth)

in GI.

2. High DHPPA- a metabolite of tyrosine produced by gastrointestinal

bacteria of Clostridia species.

3. Increased Citric in Krebs cycle.

4. Glutathione deficiency.

5. Also his Essential Fatty Acids are totally out of whack, most are all low

but one is elevated.

Triston has constantly had trouble with diarrhea, gas, reflux, etc. His diet

for the last two months has been only chicken, potatoes, rice, and pears,

green beans and spinach. He seems to do much better on this than just GFCF.

We've started super nu thera vitamins and a calcium supplement. Have also

started acidophilus supplements for bacteria. But in the last couple of

weeks, his condition seems to be getting slowly worse. Diarrhea, horrible

gas, sometimes very lethargic, sometimes vomiting. His teachers state that

he seems more and more tired but he's sleeping and napping well. Yesterday,

he just passed out at school and started running a 102 fever. We took him to

our pediatrician (who doesn't support the diet) along with the recent test

results and got absolutely nothing. He referred us to a GI specialist in

late July. I'm in the Houston area. If anyone knows of a doctor who would

be a good referral, I would greatly appreciate it. I know my son is getting

worse and yet cannot convince either of his doctors to act and do anything.

We almost took him to the emergency room last night because of the fever and

the fact that he was refusing to eat or drink. That's unusual- he drinks

around 130 -150 oz. of water everyday. I hope I'm overlooking some little

something that I can do to help him. We're going to the DAN conference this

weekend and hope to get some info there too. Thank you for your time in

reading this, please email me at dwpittard@... if you have a suggestion.

Donna
