Guest guest
I have mitochondrial myopathy and have a realm of problems over the last four years. My main problem is that I don't know how to pace myself and I seem to over do all of the time. I have two little boys and have tried to keep up some kind of normal life style. My question is that I feel like I am having problems with lactic acidosis. My lactic acid levels were just barely high last time they were measured. I get a goofy and intoxicated feeling sometimes were I am not real steady on my feet. I feel ill and like I have been poisoned with some toxin or something. That is the best way I can describe it. I also get a real mind fog thing going too, it is hard to concentrate at all. Could you guys with problems with lactic acidosis tell me your symptoms other than extreme muscle pain that I have all of the time. Thanks Randy
Guest guest
Randy, that sounds extemely like what I have had, on more than a few occasions. It's very scary when it goes too far, but I've figured out how to notice it coming early enough to head it off from getting too bad, and so mostly now I just sort of pause until it passes. My main theory (not a doctor, etc.) for my version of this (I don't know if it's the same as what you're describing) is something about downstream effects of cortisol production, due to stress of some kind coupled with exertion. Sometimes only a little bit of each, when coupled with something else, like having just eaten, or being too warm. The feeling includes light-headedness and a sense that I might pass out. As if I perhaps was holding my breath, except that I don't think I was. I suspect that the downstream effects (such as elevated epinephrine) are poorly or un-regulated, causing some metabolic imbalance that " heals " slowly and temporarily disrupts neurological function. Dunno, hope that helps. Steve D. Lactic Acidosis I have mitochondrial myopathy and have a realm of problems over the last four years. Guest guest
Randy, What you are describing is exactly how I feel. I also have a huge problem with heat radiating from the muscles that are in so much pain. This is at its worse at night (prob due to the energy I had to use during the day). I feel like a microwave, cooking from the inside out. I have had the Lactic acid test several years ago, and it was the hardest test I ever had. (I passed out a few times). They found raised levels of lactic acid in the muscles tested. I suppose the answer is how do we cope with it? I have now come to the conclusion that I have to rest far more than my brain thinks I have to....sooo hard to sit or lie down when you know something needs doing isn't it. Look after yourself ok. Guest guest
Steve, Thanks for the info. I thought for awhile that it was a side effect of the medication neurontin that I'm on. Guest guest
Wanda, Thanks for the information. I'm glad I'm not the only one with these same issues. Guest guest
Well for me everything seems to get worse when my Lactic acid is high. Pain is more intense, and I feel like I'm drunk. --- mitocytopathy mitocytopathy@...> wrote: > I have mitochondrial myopathy and have a realm of > problems over the > last four years.
