Guest guest
hi Peetie - I had a heart attack and was put on a bunch of medications afterwards, including Cardizem. It made my ankles swell up badly. These days I have gotten off most of the original medications (including the statins which are bad for mito), but have settled with Ezetrol and Questran which were the only ones that brought my cholesterol down, and also Isoptin, which stops my tachycardia. Pamela (melas) Questions about Calcium Channel Blockers Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you are on calcium channel blockers? If so what one are you on? And for what reason are you on the calcium channel blocker? My tachycardia is becoming more of a problem and so is my SOB.My 30 day heart event monitor also showed sinus tachycardia and narrow complex tachycardia. My PCP wants to put me on a calcium channel blocker and has recommended Cardizem CD. I am wondering if it is a safe drug to use if you have a Mitochondrial Disease, does anyone know? And yes I have a confirmed diagnosis of Mitochondrial disease, MELAS variant. Thanks Hugs, Ann-Marie
Guest guest
Hi, since my first heart attack a good many years ago I have taken 50 mg of Tenormin (atenolol) twice daily. I also have experienced feet and leg swelling but that has been greatly improved since my second heart attack (July, 2005) by taking 20/12.5 mg of lisinopril/hydrochlorothiazide once daily as well as lasix every other day. My heart doctor was out of town due to a family emergency last July and I now am seeing the same heart doctor called in at that time and he has made no mention of taking me off the tenormn and my understanding is that it is a calcium channel blocker? Sorry I couldn't be of more help, Dolores peetie peetie@...> wrote: Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you are on calcium channel blockers? If so what one are you on? Guest guest
Dolores Tenormin is a beta blocker, another class of heart/blood pressure meds. I also take it. They tried taking me off of it a couple of times and I had chest heaviness and was put back on. I also take an Ace Inhibitor (another class) which my cardiologist and nephrologist say is better for me. It protects the kidneys, but I don't know what it does, if anything, for tacycardia. laurie > Hi, since my first heart attack a good many years ago I have taken 50 mg of > Tenormin (atenolol) twice daily. Guest guest
Pamela, I haven't had a heart attack and I don't have high cholesterol. So I am thinking that I should be on something else other than Cardizem CD. My PCP is working hand in hand with my cardiologist. And now that I have read the drug interactions section that is included with your prescriptions I know that this drug is not for me b/c the medications that I take and the medications that are in my TPN are listed as drug interactions with Cardizem CD. So on Monday I will call my PCP and she and my cardiologist can put their heads together again and come up with a better medication for my tachycardia and sob. Thanks for adding your experiences!
