Guest guest
I was wondering what the best solution to this problem would be: Gabe's feet sweat all day and night in his 's which he wears at least 18 hrs a day. I have noticed that he has begun to get cracks that don't bleed but are open and do look pretty painful on the bottoms of his toes between the first and second joints. The skin looks pretty dry after he's been out of his shoe/socks for a while. I imagine they are causing him some pain, but I'm hesitant to put anything on his feet...lotion or antibacterial something... Any advise? --------------------------------- Yahoo! Guest guest
Faith, Sounds like athlete foot. Get some Lamasil cream and see if that helps. You could also make a salve out of Tea Tree oil and Vaseline (2 or 3 drops into about 1tbs of Vaseline - mix), which will also do the trick but is kind of odorific... not bad if you like Tea Tree... But it's a more natural fungicide than Lamasil if you aren't sure about using medications. I love Tea Tree, good stuff and it does work for lots of other things too so if you decide to try it, don't balk at the cost (1oz about $11 here) because it's handy to have around. Guest guest
Thanks Kori ... that's what I was thinking it was, but I was under the impression that you had to " catch " athelete's foot ....like from showers... swimming pools... etc... Gabe hasn't been anywhere that he could get the stuff. I'll try the tea tree oil... Will application burn him though? frogabog frogabog@...> wrote: Faith, Sounds like athlete foot. Guest guest
If you don't put too much Tea Tree in it, I'm sure it'll be fine. The vaseline helps keep it in place and soothes a bit too. I don't think you have to catch it, it occurs in moist warm environments. Kinda like yeast... Kenton has had it on his toes like that before too, he's only 6. hope those tootsies feel better soon! Guest guest
Faith, Sounds like athlete's foot to me too. We're treating Jonah's second bout with it now. The pediatrician thought it was actually sort of funny when I showed up some months ago asking if my just barely walking son might have athlete's foot... In any case, he told us it was fine to use an antifungal on him (we use Tinactin). It clears up right quick. My husband is prone to athlete's foot and does the tea tree oil in vaseline as a preventative measure. Hope this helps. Guest guest
You might want to ask his dr about athlete's foot. I had one little spot of it on the underside of my pinkie toe- in the crease between my foot & toe. It cracked something awful but never bled or anything. Over-the-counter lotrimin cream cleared it up in just a couple days. I would ask your ped about it before you treat it, though, just in case it's something more serious (like the fit of his shoes or something).
