Aleksander is quickly coming up to the 6 months marker, and I was

curious what milestones other CF babies reached, and when.

Aleksander can sit up for quite a while without flopping, and also

stands if we help him balance. He can't pull himself up to standing

without help, but he can pull himself up to sitting if you give him

your hands. We don't have to help him pull up, just provide

resistance.

He rolls over, but since he's started sitting up, he doesn't show

much interest in tummy time.

I also wanted to see if any other CF babies have had strange ways

of 'crawling.' Aleksander seems to be trying to crawl while on his

back. He almost looks like he's trying to do the crab walk. It is

really funny, and I'm not really worried, just mildly concerned.

When we put him on his stomach, he knows what to do with his legs,

but he holds his arms straight out like they are wings on an airplane

and arches his back. We try to put his arms in the right place, but

he just shoves them back out, grins at us, and continues to move his

legs properly and hold his arms like he's trying to fly.

I know all babies develop on their own time, and we have to adjust

his developmental milestones because he was premature, but some of

the things he's doing are so bizzare, I thought I'd ask!

He is going to the doctor on Friday for his 6 months check-up so I

will ask her too but she doesn't really have any other CF babies so

she doesn't know about some of the unique work-arounds these kids

seem to come up with!

Thanks!

Hi ,

The clubfoot and DBB shouldn't have any effect on his

developmental milestones at all.

I can say from my own experience that my twins (one

with clubfoot/DBB, one without) reached all their

milestones (rolling over, sitting up, crawling,

standing, walking, etc) within a few days of each

other.

Both were quite late with most things (eg they only

walked at 17 months) which could be because they were

7 weeks premature but at least I know for sure that it

wasn't due to the clubfoot since then the other twin

would have been able to do things earlier in that

case... :)

Anyway, Alister (with the clubfoot) started crawling

backwards at first and was quite frustrated when he

went further and further away from his toys instead of

closer... :) Then a couple of days later (with

normal feet) started crawling 'GI Joe' style and

managed to snap Alister's toys away from him. Not to

be outdone, Alister figured out how to crawl forward

'properly' another couple of days later and was able

to overtake to snap his toys back! :) It took

another 4 days or so to catch up with that...

After that there was really no difference in their

'crawling style'. :)

But I think all babies crawl differently, I have seen

babies shuffle on their bums instead of crawling, or

my brother could actually walk before he could

crawl... :)

Good luck,

with (*9/02)

and Alister (*9/02, RCF, Ponseti method, in DBB)

, Just a couple things in response to your post. Jake took

forever to learn to crawl, but mainly because he didn't like tummy

time. We didn't force him to do it because it looked like he'd be

uncomfortable in the cast/shoes and he appeared to hate it. As a result

he didn't crawl until he was almost 11 mos old, and had been in PT (from

the age of 9 mos) because he wasn't rolling over like he should have

been. He sat up at 6 mos but was unable to go from lying to sitting on

his own. So I'd encourage you to continue with the tummy time

(incidentally we did a lot more tummy time with our 2nd child, and she

as a result liked it more. She also started crawling as soon as she

could sit up, at age 6 mos). You might try sitting on the floor with

Aleksander, and putting him over your leg for his tummy time. That way

you can put his arms in the right position. Sometimes that's more

comfortable for babies too; they aren't so flat on the floor.

Jake too scooted around on the floor on his back...he used his dbb as

leverage to push off from the floor. It was pretty funny to watch :)

but got him where he needed to go! Only problem was he wouldn't pay

attention to where he was going and he bumped his head several times lol.

Hi ,

Well did sit up and roll over at an early age but as for

standing and crawling it took her a while. This was due to her feet

not being corrected so she began to crawl at about 12months. She too

crawled in her own way. She would sit on her bottom and scoot

herself wherever she needed to go. She still does that but more the

usual crawling. She is 17months today and has just started taking

her first steps alone. She did talk at about 10months saying the

smaller words like " mama " , " dada " , " no " ,and " papa " (spanish for food).

Now she has finally started to move onto the bigger words but I

think she prefers the baby talk. She has her own conversations with

her dad in her own " language " .

All I can day is enjoy it! Time goes by so quickly that the next

thing you know you'll be chasing after them and wanting a moment of

quite. LOL! All kids reach milestones at different ages but they are

all unique and special in their own little way!

will be 6 months on Thursday, and Aleksander is way ahead of him. He

rolls from back to tummy with a lot of work. He sits up if I balance him with

my hands by his butt. He loves to stand and will bounce for hours. His muscles

are very tight though which is hurting him, so I am not a good comparison I am

sure. They were tight when he was born, and have remained that way because the

bar inhibited him so much early on. He is doing much better, but I really think

Aleksander sounds like he is doing everything he should be doing!
