Sounds to me like your son may not be fully corrected. Kori, frogabog, is very

well versed in the shoes and issues. She will be able to assist you in

determining the cause.

Hi,

My name is Jill, my twins & (3 months)were born at 35

weeks. has several problems, clubfeet being one of them. He

has had the casts and the tendon snip and more casts. Now he is in

the braces, and the 1st time the brace Dr, put him in them the next

day he had awful sores on the backs of his ankles. If we put them

too

tight they leave sores but if they are not tight enough the heel

doesn't rest flat and they fall off. Also, his last 2 toes bend up

underneath and are causing indentations on the bottom of his feet.

And, last but not least he screams the entire time he wears them, and

I'm not sure if they are hurting him or just irritating. I have

called the dr., but I have not gotten a response and I live 2 1/2

hrs.

away so I can't just run in there, anyones help would be greatly

appreciated!!

Thank You,

Jill

Jill,

First of all, welcome to the group! We're glad you found us and hopefully we

can help you some.

The sores on the back of the feet are a sign that something is not right with

the fit of the shoes. Most of the time, it's a matter of the parent needing to

learn how to put the shoes on correctly. It is absolutely essential that the

feet not be able to slip around in the shoes and that the heels be seated in the

very back and bottom of the shoes. It sounds like you have already figured some

of these things out. I'll send you an email in a minute here with some tips and

tricks for success with the FAB/DBB.

Are his toes always bent underneath? Even when he is out of the shoes? Is your

doctor planning on doing anything about this? It seems to me that this would

make the FAB pretty painful. A little boy in the group had a toe that bent

underneath his foot and had to have a tendon snipped in it to get it to lie with

the others before he could go into the FAB. I think that procedure went very

well.

Where are you located and who is treating your son? I know the feeling of not

being able to just jump in the car and pop over to the doctor's office when

there's a problem. We seek treatment for our son from a doctor who is at least

5 hours away (on a very good traveling day).

Hugs to you and to your little ones.

Naomi
