Guest guest
The Markell shoes are an excellent choice for about 95% of clubfoot cases. They hold correction well and, once you know how to put them on correctly, they are easy to use. They are also very cost-effective. The shoes were designed specifically for cases that the Markells do not work for. This includes atypical CF, persistent or stubborn CF, and babies with very small feet (such as preemies). The only time I am aware of that Markells do not have a chance of working and can be dammaging is atypical CF. The " relapse in less than a month " you read would have been my son. He has atypical CF and the Markells do nothing to hold correction in his case. One other thing about the s is that they are designed to help correct a specific deformity (cavus) in children with atypical clubfeet. This is something the Markell's cannot do. Your child must be fully corrected to go into Markells. Your child needs to be " as close to full correction as possible " to go into s. If your son does not have atypical or resistant clubfoot there is not really any good reason to spend a large sum of money to get a brace that wont be any better than the normal brace. I hope that helps some! But why is the brace better than the Markell? I read conflicting information re: them both. I have heard Markell is better at preventing relapse and the is better at preventing relapse. If the shoe itself maintains the feet abducted/rotated at a 70 degree angle and shoulder width apart , why does it matter? I am feeling so nervous at the idea of a relapse; my son who is (2) has gone through the true Ponseti method and has been in his FAB 23/7 for the past 3 weeks and I read someone's post that " ...relapse in the after a month. " I will be sending photos of my son's feet to Dr.P asap so he can confirm what type of cf he has " atypical or non-atypical? " This whole experience can be so nerve wracking at times. I just hate to see the little guy suffer longer then he has too.-- Anita Kelliher
