Guest guest
Several people mention cardiac problems related to Mito and have read some stuff about this. How common is it to have cardiac problems with Mito? What sort of problems? How would one know if they have them? Do people with Mito inevitably develop cardiac problems eventually? I've had cardiac work-ups unrelated to Mito but have not been told I have any cardiac problems beyond possibly minimal mitral valve prolapse and/or thickening. Thanks, Randall (who is still not convinced he has this disorder)
Guest guest
Like so many oter organ systems affected by mitochondrial disease the cardiac signs/symptoms vary. Some people have rhythm abnormalities, others develop cardiomyopathy or neurocardiogenic syncope. Not every one has or develops cardis related issues but they are common. Guest guest
In 1997 when I was doing baseline testing after being diagnosed with MELAS I had cardiac testing done (the mito doc who diagnosed me tells me everytime I see him I should have yearly tests--cannot afford the copay on them so do not). I was fine then. My mother who died in 1988 from a massive seizure did not have heart problems although she had alot of other health problems. We were told when she went into the coma that was basically the only thing that was keeping her alive. As far as cardiac problems in mito--I was told that it is a possibility. Actually was told that wherever in the body there are a large concentration of bad mitochondria in proportion of good mitochondria you may have a problem. Janet Mito and cardiac problems?
